Quality Helmets In Chiang Rai

Hi Trend Setters.

I'm reasonably new to CR but on

my bike trip today, I saw the remains

of a motorbike vs truck accident.

I don't know the name of the road but it

was the main one about a kilometre past

Don's food place(from the city) at about 1400hrs.

It looked as is the truck MAY have cut

the corner into a small soi as it was on

the wrong side and the bike was in a ditch.

The Thai guy had a blanket over him but I

still saw his face as I rode by. Bloody terrible.

Anyway, this has got me thinking that I want

to get some quality helmets and was wondering

if there is a place in CR to get them.

Laergely depends on what kind of investment you want to make or what value you want to put on your head and other faculties. There are some fairly good ones available in Chiang Mai but the choice is very limited. suggest that you Google "Paddock" in Bangkok for quality Shoei helmets or "Red Baron" for Arai

There is no helmet anywhere that will take the force of a ten-wheel truck tough.

Actually I'd say a top-of-the-line, Thai made Index helmet is considerably better then a tupperware bowl (though not as good as a Shoei or Arai).

Today Puh (forgive me the without any doubt wrong spelling) was the guest of honour on his last barbeque.

While driving on his machine he tried to adjust the cable of the gas handle, lost his balance and fell.

If I understood things right the brake pedal went straight through his helmet.

The cremation was attended by many bikers.

Rest in Peace Puh!

PS: Many might know Khun Puh from the tattoe shop on Yed Yod road.

Puh was member of the Black Rabbits. Many members of the Chiang Mai

biker groups attended his last 'party' as well.

There is a magic aura surrounding villages that strengthens skulls by a factor of 10!!!!

a double fatality.

I have 3 helmets. A cheap Thai forfor nipping to the 7/11, an Index one for going round the ring road here on Samui and a UK standard one for going on the mainland. The flip up Index one is not to bad for Thai made helmet, cost around 2500 baht. I figure my head is worth it. Also as far as the missus goes. She now knows no helmet no ride simple as that. I don't care if its only to go to the 7/11 or what. Even on the back no helmet no ride! Safety first! I too have seen far too many busted up farangs and Thais after hitting the tarmac, several dead.

Yes, after the face shield shattered on my son's index helmet from a fall from the handlebars in CR, we bought a full screened Real near the night market for 1800 baht. Asking price was 2400 Baht.

Yes, how safe is a helmet that visor, and mounting pivots, shatters from a drop of less than a meter?
