Children enjoy National Children's Day visit to Government House, interview PM

BANGKOK: -- Besides enjoying free food and beverages, children who have sent New Year’s greeting cards to Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva will have an opportunity Saturday to sit on his chair at Government House and present him with their concerns in a question-and-answer interview format.

Mr Abhisit also addressed a teleconference gathering of 450 student council representatives in Chiang Mai, Khon Kaen, Surat Thani and Yala.

The once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to sit at the prime minister’s desk comes as the country celebrates National Children’s Day.

At the Thai Koo Fah Building in the Government House compound, children who had earlier sent New Year’s greeting cards to Mr Abhisit are able to sit on his chair and visit reception rooms. They will also be able to read news and, most importantly, interview Mr Abhisit himself.

Urging children to become good citizens when they grow up, Mr Abhisit officially opened National Children’s Day activities at Nimibutr Gymnasium at the National Stadium. He also urged children to look at the world on the bright side and to lead society to advancement.

Government House where the prime minister has his office is open for children to visit from 8.30am to 3pm.

Exhibitions on display and activities include photographs of His Majesty the King, and royal decorations, memorabilia and other souvenirs received by the prime minister on his overseas trips, as well as performances of the award-winning marching band of Satriwithaya 2 School and by Bangkok television celebrities.

Mr Abhisit also addressed a teleconference gathering of 450 student council representatives in Chiang Mai, Khon Kaen, Surat Thani and Yala.

Free movie tickets will also be given to children along with free food, soft drinks, hair cuts and dental check-ups.

Chiang Mai - Former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra Saturday told kids here that the current politics is full with deceptions.

Thaksin made a phone call to address children who gathered for a Children's Day celebration, held at the Waroros Grand Palace under his sponsorship.

He told the children to ignore the current politics because it was full with lies.

"Don't follow an example of a stupid person who allow a bankrupt person to lead him. Or, don't follow example of grownups who are still acting like children," Thaksin said.
