Breast Tenderness/pain

Featured Replies

A couple of months ago I started on a new contraceptive pill, and so far so good (unfortunately I have had serious side effects in the past with bcp's, so im grateful this one seems to be less problematic). But, one side effect that is causing me a great deal of discomfort is breast pain. Its constant. Its particularly tender around my sides, even to the point of recently disturbing my sleep. Some areas when touched send a really sharp jolt of pain through me.

I plan to start taking Evening Primrose Oil again (2000-3000mg a day), to see if that helps. I took it in the past to ease pms symptoms and it helped. However, on this pill ive noticed pms symptoms have greatly reduced thank goodness. It just seems to be this constant tenderness.

Any advice?

Hi Eek, I have had the same symptoms before as well as bigger boobs fortunately - or unfortunately in my case - these symptoms always stop 3 months after I have started taking the pill. Doc usually say most symptoms from contracaptive pills will stop within 3 months. Maybe give it another month??

On a side note however it does sound like your pain is more severe than any I have had. Do you think maybe you should go for a check up just to rule anything else out?

is it both sides? If its localized in one specific area suggest you do a self exam for lumps. I have breast fibroids and they can be tender and painful.

Its equal on both sides.

Its not uncommon for me to get breast tenderness, but normally only before a period (when not on the pill). Usually just one or two days though. Its also normal for me to get breast lumps..i forget the term...fibrous tissue? Its something ive had since i first started menstruating, but when i was younger it was so severe where I would have huge tender lumps at times and i couldnt lift my arms without pain! I havent had that problem for years, thankfully, and this is nothing close to that kind of pain, but its an ongoing thing, so its uncomfortable. I dont think its anything else, as tenderness is normal for me, but not on a continued basis like this. However, I will keep a check on myself and think about going along to a clinic to talk to a doctor about it.

Other than that, I guess the thing to do then is keep a check, and wait for three months to see if there is any improvement?

Oh i think thats the term! Yes, its something that i also suffer from. Lumping. Ive never had any advice from a doctor on this except that im unlucky and its nothing to worry about. Doesnt seem to be anything around to help? I'll do some google hunting at some point to see if there are any natural remedy suggestions and let you know too. As I said, lumping has always been normal for me, but usually gets bad just before a period, and painful, but this time its not abating. Hopefully after three months will die down, but ill see about some kind of remedy that may help too.

same same here: any unusual hormonal changes and voila, breast tenderness and pain; was on pre cancerous watch for a year due to 'inflamed' cysts and i have fibroid breasts... i find that a hot water bottle helps; different bras help (i used to go braless but now cannot, breasts have grown again, seems to happen after a certain age)...its sort of like youir body thinking u are pregnant, even if u arent...

i also would maybe wait the three m onths and then see...

but a breast check could be good if u havent had one in a while.
