Cooling Pads For Notebooks ?

Featured Replies

Those cooling pads for notebooks, which you can buy for around 100 Baht : are they any good or superfluous ?

The pads with the single large fan work great

Ive tried a few different ones, none seemed to provide any noticable temperature improvements.

Without one fo these pads my laptop suffers from overheating due to a problem with the Internal fan.

Using one of these pads has solved me problem withyout having to have a new fan fitted. So they obviously help a little.

BUT

I can get exactly the same results by raising the PC off the desk by placing it on 4 water bottle tops

^ BUT, if you sit with it on your knee it keeps your balls cool too.

Do we need software for everything,

What happened to the good old touch and feel

:)

Ask the missus if she would prefer software or hardware

But you do get a trim at the same time

I have one with 3 small fans which seems to help,

not the least because it raises the notebook off the desk giving clearer air flow.

The fans do seem to shift the hot air and keep the machine cooler.

Well after having one laptop, there is a reason they dont call them laptops anymore, burn up I am a true believer in them. And yes I have used temp monitoring software before that did show a difference, but software temp monitoring programs are not very accurate. As laptops have gotton faster processors, video cards and drives the temps have been bordering on the limits of processor design, so yes a cooler is def worth it.

I have a MacBook Pro, which uses its entire cabinet, together with a grill in the back, to get rid of the heat, and a twin-fan cooling pad lowers the temp with 5-10 C. But I mainly use it when running windows, where it can get very hot! I can only recommend it if you have heat issues, or you just want to expand the lifetime of your components.

Most of the times when a laptop is overheating it is due to dust inside. A good cleaning once in a while can solve a lot of problems.
