Hi again,

I plan on moving to the UK to do a PGDE teaching qualification. This means applying for a UK settlement visa for my Thai wife. I think I may have a healthy enough bank account to prove no recourse to public funds while doing the course. However, after a big wedding ceremony last month, my credit card debt is pretty high.

If I pay my credit card off, I'll then have nothing left in the bank when I come to apply for my wife's settlement visa in April. Alternatively, I could just make minimum payments until after the visa application so that my bank balance remains at a suitable level.

So, my question is, can I submit my wife's visa application without revealing any of my credit card bills? Will they be suspicious if I omit these statements?

Thanks!

Yes you can. I've never submitted a credit card statement for any visa and neither have any of the friends I've helped either. And we've never been asked to by the Embassy.

It is not a requirement when applying for a visa to show your credit card statement , use your common sense in this situation if you don't have the funds to maintain and accommodate her whilst in the UK they may refuse you on lack of funds.

The answer is you do not need to show any credit card statements.

Good luck.

Great. I'll delay paying off large amounts of the bill until I'm teaching full time in the UK.

Thanks for all the replies!

As others have said it's No problem. I was in the same position when my Wife put her settlement application in

I just made Min Payments off of my Credit card. I was not able to clear it until I returned to the UK.

No questions were asked about the payment going out to pay Credit Card

I never mentioned it. Just submitted the bank statements

Hello,

I thought I would jump on this topic, as you are in a similar situation to me. I have just been accepted on a PGCE teacher training course in September, and I also need a settlement visa for my Thai wife. However, I don't have anything substantial in the bank at this moment in time. I also have no idea what I need to do to make the whole process run smoothly. I am a bit concerned, as I am looking to borrow fees, grants, etc.. and then start paying back when I am qualified the following year.

Will I still be able to get a visa for my wife? I can probably get a large sum of money transferred into my bank account (but would need to transfer it back again!), I can also use my parents, if needs be, as sponsors (we may even be staying at their home for the duration of the course).

I'm not really sure how it all works, as I was putting all my energy into getting accepted onto the course before. Are there agencies which you can pay to sort it all out for you?

Thanks, if anyone can answer my questions!

Yes, you should be okay. Do use your parents as sponsors, especially if you will be staying with them - and if so remember to give details of the house including sufficient room for you both to stay as well as permission - and mention the PGCE bursary payable to you which is not a 'public fund' for immigration purposes and not taxable or repayable. As you say, you will also have access to the dear old Student Loans Company's funds for a loan to tide you over once you start your course.
