wilson steer
I have a multi-region DVD player that I bought in the LOS; it seems to play all regions, but what about NTSC format? Will it play those? Plus, will a Sony PS2 play both formats? What about my T.V. will that play NTSC DVDs. Thanks for all help on this one.
sniffdog
No, your TV won't play NTSC DVDs unless it has a slot somewhere .... But is my experience that regular LOS players (and TVs) are able to play PAL and NTSC without a problem.
Crossy
Your DVD player will have a switch, either on the back or in the setup menu with positions, PAL, NTSC and auto. This sets the output format. Here it should be set to PAL unless you have a multi-standard TV (then set it to auto). An NTSC disk will play and be transcoded to a format called PAL-60 which your regular PAL TV will view just fine. In The States flip the switch to NTSC and PAL disks will play and transcode to NTSC-50 which most modern US TV sets 'should' display. Dead clever these Chinese eh???
