I studied at Piammitr for over a year. I was very satisfied with everything and do recommend them. There were a few small hiccups renewing my visa one time but in Thailand you can't expect Precision engineering. As far as your visa you should email them. They can send you the necessary documents to apply for an ED visa at a Thai consulate IN YOUR HOME country. You must arrive in Thailand on the ED visa for it to be issued. You can't get it within Thailand. If you do go to Thailand without the ED visa they can issue the paperwork but you will then need to go to a Thai consulate in a neighboring country like Laos to reenter Thailand on an ED visa. It is a 90 visa that must be renewed with school documents every 90 days. You can leave the country once you are living in Thailand with it but first must get a reentry permit from immigration

I don't understand what you're trying to say.

I've followed classroom courses at Piammitr for about 4 months. I also took private courses there (for about 6 hours per week, 2 months long). I started at Piammitr just after I had arrived in Thailand. Before I started at the school I was on a very basic level of Thai (via self-study): I could already read the consonants and vowels (very slowly), but my pronunciation was very bad and my vocabulary was very limited. After 6 months at piammitr I could read/write and speak Thai pretty well. I passed the level test of Thai government and got high score (higher than some people that had been studying for 2 years in other schools).

goh hok and jing-jing are not slang.

Some teachers try to keep the classes amusing by talking about subjects that are not too serious.

The poster known as 'bangkokburning' evidently didn't notify the staff of his incredible thai language ability beforehand. :D

With more than 7 levels (books) to choose from, one would think a person could start where they need to; instead of sitting a class which was too low a level for them and then slagging off the school. :) (Then again, maybe not.. :D )

BTW: I also sat a class at Piammitr and thought they had a good program overall.

To answer another of the O/P's questions;

YES you must pay tuition at most private thai language schools FIRST before they will issue you the necessary paperwork to obtain an ED visa at a thai embassy or consulate.

The school applies to the Ministry of Education for you, and supplies you with all the documents you need. It takes the school’s staff time to prepare, send, receive and get the documents to you, so the tuition up front thing is almost a given.

Good Luck, :D
