Another Thai-Lao border crossing opens

NONG KHAI: -- Another Thai-Laotian border crossing point in Nong Khai province will be opened later this week.

The authorities expect it to help significantly increase cross border trade. It will also allow local officials to exchange intelligence information on suspected insurgents and drug traffickers.

The border crossing point at the Thai border village of Baan Chumpol and Done Tai village of Laos will be open every Tuesday and Saturday between 8.00 am and 4.00 pm from 3 May.

Border passes will issued by the border authorities in both countries, but visitors must return on the same day.

The agreement to open the border check point was signed by local officials from both countries -- the Pone Pisai district officer and the chief of Pak Ngum town of Laos – on Saturday.
