Has Hua Hin become to crime ridden to live now?

<span style="">Been thinking of moving to Hua Hin to build and settle down, we like Hua Hin, but I have spoken to several people who also like the city who are concerned by the spate of crime there in the last couple of years. From what I have read on the web, it seems to confirm it some wh

Article? Stats? Personal experience? What are you basing this on?

I know that Hua Hin is dangerous around the beer bars for the same reason that those areas are always dodgy in any city, but I haven't heard anything about it becoming some new crime haven. I'm honestly curious about where you are getting this info.

(my hope is to move to that area after I finish my commitments in Bangkok in a couple of years, so I'm interested in this personally)

I think this is an exaggeration.

If you live in the better gated communities like Palm Hills or Heights, or a well managed condo, your home life & belongings would be safe.

I've walked around the Bintabaht bar area many times and never came across any threatening scenes.

The deteriorating reputation appears to be due to reports of some dodgy property developers, weak security at some housing estates, and some isolated bag snatching cases. I have a part time residence in a condo there, and when walking in the town area always walk on the outside of my wife and we've experienced no problems. In fact, I feel more safe in Hua Hin than I do in the Sukhumvit area of Bangkok (which is where I reside full time).

I recently visited Hua Hin for the first time in a number of years and was rather disappointed. I don't know about crime, but it is rapidly turning into another expat colony, which does seem to attract those, both Thai and expat, who prey on others. I suppose it's inevitable given the beach, not that it's really that nice, and its proximity to Bangkok. Another place I may have considered living in 15 years ago, but not now. Although, seeing the expat population boom at places like this just makes me laugh all the more at all the "Thais don't like farangs" posts. Those crafty Thais are doing a damned good job at fooling a whole lot of people.

... and when walking in the town area always walk on the outside of my wife and we've experienced no problems.

I can see you would have problems if you tried walking around on the inside of your wife.
