Kf6vci
Mmh, King Power has a huge shop near the Pullman Hotel which is within walking distance of Victory Monument. Here they have most of the leading cigarette brands - but instead of adding say 200 Baht tax, they won't sell them! You can buy them and get them delivered at King Power duty free. How screwed up a business model is this? Why oh why isn't K.P. just paying the tax and letting folks buy the cigarettes they like? Chris

Chris My understanding is that King Power is a duty free seller, ie you cannot buy unless you are leaving the country. Good question as to why they don't just sell what people want. The purchaser could pay the import tax anyway upon sale. But, I suppose that is to complex of an issue for the "system" to undertake.
Ping
I had the same trouble in Phuket. They were not being restocked anywhere on the island (believe me, I looked in many places) for most of December. Luckily, I managed to get supplies from a place that had heavily stocked-up just prior to the delivery problem (after trying around 30 different places.) I then got restocked by someone coming back from up north. No-one was able to tell me what caused the problem, but it is evidently persisting in a number of places. If anyone knows/finds out the reason, I'd be curious to know.
submaniac
Good question as to why they don't just sell what people want. I really don't think that there is that much of a demand for B & H. I really don't like them. Don't know any Thais that like them either. Mal Bo-Roh
eyebee
B&H, London and Dunhill, which are all manufactured in Singapore by BAT for the Thai market, do not seem to be available nationwide at the moment. This has happened before - usually happens once every couple of years. I don't know why it happens - a distribution problem; a dispute; or just bloody-mindedness? Usually resolves itself after a month or two, but this time it seems to have been going on for much longer. I've been forced to change to L&M Red, not very much to my liking, but certainly cheaper at 60 baht (B&H are/were 98 baht). I have never seen Dunhill available on the retail market in Thailand. 555 also available here, which is a fairly good UK brand, but a bit strong. I also would like to see all the brands available retail that are sold in duty free shops, but I don't think it will happen. I think it would be a good opportunity for the govt to make some tax money, since I am sure you would be nailed for additional import taxes. aussiechick
They used to have Dunhill (Baht 45) when I first came to Thailand - it was what I smoked then. I discovered the Thais were happy to smoke them to so I changed to Krung Thip (Baht 19) - they were just as happy and it was cheaper for me! ZeroNull
Thanks a lot telling me that i steped on a nationwide problem. (i.e. trying to buy Benson & Hedges). Every one knows a good import&export company who is specialised on tabaco ? (best in Bangkok or arround) I will ask them for importing it. And i can save a lot of time next saturday not trying to visit every store in Bangkok. ZeroNull
KASABIAN
No Bensons or London in Pattaya AFAIA, every 7/11 or Family Mart is the same reply "no have" . The LM Daaeng are as rough as you like but not much of a choice right now other then giving up which is easier said then done.
ThaiPauly
I have to report its the same up here in Chiang Mai. Down to my last 4 packs , and every single shop has sold out of their brands The brands are owned by British-American Tobacco. Their BK head office number is 02-676-6255 I was gonna call them today to try and find out whats happening, but got sidetracked. I'll try sometime tomorrow, (if I remember) but if anyone else wants to try feel free
ThaiPauly
Well I called them...the operator said there was nobody there......call again tomorrow!! "So you have nobody in a company that has 4 extension number choices that can tell me why none of your products are available in Thailand?" "No... sorry (nervous chuckle) ...can you call again tomorrow?" Hmmm Not that British-American Tobacco is an SME is it?? Something's not right here
slimdog
Something's not right here I suspect that BAT have decided to suspend all operations in Thailand until the outcome of the case involving Phillip Morris is settled. http://www.nationmultimedia.com/2010/01/20...ss_30120700.php
ZeroNull
UPDATE >mickylonster: >try tobbaconist 5th floor emporium I have been at emporium saturday. At the fifth floor i dont found an tobbaconist but an liquore store. They sell Cigarettes but not Benson & Hedges. Further i would recommend: Do not take your wife and money or creditcard together with you to the emporium. Its the most expensivest mall i have seen in TH. Ping
Update. It's clear that they (Bensons) are off the Thai market long term (still not available). If they were still available, they would now be slightly over the B100 mark in price. Best alternative (IMO) is the 'Original Blue' version of 'Mild Seven' cigs, at B94 per packet. They have a white coloured filter paper (look like menthols) but are a mid-strength standard tobacco very similar to a Dunhill Blue/Distinct or slightly mild Benson. Not at all bad and readily available at Family Marts and 7/11s.
