item--1 Krabi proposed 3 major projects to the Prime Minister during his visit last Sunday for local development

Krabi Governor Prasit Osatanond proposed three major development projects to seek support from the government during Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva's visit to Krabi on Sunday. The local authority proposed ‘Andaman University’ by integrating some educational institutes to serve local demand, a by-pass road project and the upgrade of Krabi Hospital to serve the tourism industry. The governor stressed the need of each project while the prime minister said he would assign responsible agencies to consider the projects. Prime Minister Abhisit visited Krabi on Sunday to preside over the launching of the Village Committee Competency Enhancement program – Krabi model, to be carried out by Krabi authority in response to the government’s policy to have village committees play active roles in community development. The Prime Minister also paid a visit to the learning centre for sufficient economy at Ban Khao Klom village.

Item -2- A Krabi tourism sector calls for flight increases to serve their tourism industry while local hoteliers plan to attend marketing fair - ITB in Berlin in March.

Krabi hotel accommodation at this period stands at 70%, according to the provincial Tourism Association president Ittirit Kinglek. He further explained that 80% of guests are European and Scandinavian. Ittirit admits that the occupation rate is not high, but stressed the signs of longer stays due to the severe weather in Europe. He also reports that local hoteliers and operators plan to attend the world tourism marketing event – ITB in Germany in March to attract more European travelers to the region. Ittirit however suggests that flights between Bangkok and Krabi be increased from the present six flights per day to cater for more tourism.

So did this ever get started? What's the story on the bridge from the mainland?

Last I was down there they had finished the roadwork going to the ferry which was a road widening for what looked like the ability of big equipment, trucks etc to get to the construction site without disturbing the traffic to Lanta. Will give it a look again when I'm due down there end of the month.
