RedHotChilli
I connect to the internet using True, If I remember rightly speeds of something like 1024/256, which I pay about 890 baht a month. Ok well, i've just done a speedtest and the results are coming up 1351.446 Kbps (that's using their link www.wow.asianet.co.th) However, I''m currently trying to configure my settings with Emule (p2p software) and they gave me a link to test my speed and their results are coming in at just 230/141 kbps (www.adlsguide.org.uk/tools/speedtest.asp) Now, i'm really not computer savvy, maybe there's a simple explanation, but why the huge difference between the two tests?? Thanks in advance RedHotChilli Edited May 8, 2005 by RedHotChilli
Firefoxx
Their server, wow.asianet.co.th, is located at the same place as their company, which is at the same place that your link ultimately ends up at. This means that you've got pretty much unlimited bandwidth between you and that server, hence you can get the full speed. This is also true for most sites located within Thailand, since their link to the local internet exchange is very large, and there is relatively little local traffic. For any traffic headed outside Thailand, you need to pass through their international link. Although True's international link is relatively large compared to other Thai ISPs, it is tiny on the global scale, and not very large considering the number of customers True has. Therefore, you're competing for limited bandwidth with other True users. You're lucky to get that much. This is a page that shows True's domestic and international links: http://webcorp.asianet.co.th/eh/linkinter/linkstatus.php

The first picture she was nearly 2 month old and this picture she is nearly 4 month.

melus
You're getting NaN Kbps because you're hitting the back button instead of the refresh button. Thanks, McFester, for the info on the Thai Ridgebacks. Edited May 8, 2005 by melus
expatinasia
"There is a big difference between KBps and Kbps. I'm sure someone can explain more about this." There are 8 bits per byte. So: 800Kb = 100KB.

Abandon
TRUE are blocking your use of emule and other peer2peer transfer systems. See this thread: http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=31535 only option at present is to change to a different provider.
RedHotChilli
Thanks for all the replies. I'm beginning to understand things a lot better now, I think... Pandit, thanks for the link. I'll have a good read on that in a minute. I'm actually a new user to Emule. I did yesterday, for a shortwhile get speeds of 16, but as of today my status is just 'waiting.' However, the two films I'm after, have hardly any sources, so i'm expecting it to take some time. I usually use Arestra and I'm happy with the speeds they give me, athough finding any older movies is a nightmare. Anyways, I won't get into things, seeing as there is another thread on the topic, but once again thanks OFF TOPIC Nice dog, Mcfester. You're right, that's Sumo in my avator and she's also a Ridgeback that I got from JatuJak Market, although I paid 3000 baht. She's 8 months now
