Big C

Featured Replies

No one mentioned this, so I thought I would share my knowledge with the rest of you.

North of Hua Hin, opposite Sheraton & VIP in that area, there is now a huge building site.

A BigC center is being built there, with BigC and all the other surrounding shops that come with it.

I think it's the best that could happen to Hua Hin, and it's the best place to put it as well. Loads of condo buildings just opposite towards the sea, all the people from Cha am and all people north of Hua Hin center will have an easier time going there than having to pass through Hua Hin center to go to a crowded Market Village. I can't wait!

Only thing we still need now is a McDonalds with McDrive in that area as well :) Actually that amazes me why there are none on the whole way to Bangkok from here, one would think there was a market for it?

May we hope Central World and Global to be the next? Big C is surely welcomed here.

My hope would be for a Foodland. I just explored one in Bangkok and they have almost as much imported goods as Villa Market but at much lower prices! While I agree that a supermarket is needed in that area (north of Hua Hin), Big C is just another Tesco that does little to cater to the tastes of foreigners imo.

I still use the old Hua Hin shopping mall more than Tesco. Unless I am shopping for fresh meat or produce I can find most things I want there (and some that Tesco does not stock) usually at lower prices.

A Carrefour would have been so much better! If you have been to Carrefour Rama IV, you will know what I mean. There is already a Big C in Phetchaburi and I agree with hhfarang, it's nothing much than Tesco, which is already nothing much in itself.

That would e geat especially for residents of Cha am as that location is Cha am rather than Hua Hin, howewer that constuction site is for an FN Factory Outlet.

Darn, A big C or most anything would be welcome. Hate driving from Cha Am to the othr side of HH. Some day it will happen. (I hope)

Yes!

If i can choose i would prefer a Carrefour, they are really experienced with european import and sure cheaper than Villas...

Funny I heard it is going to be a CareFore market (probably spelling is bad) :) Rumors, rumors, rumors ???

The sign is up now so it is official, as ESB7 said, it is a Factory Outlet. Sorry, no Carrefour at this location.

A while back there was a rumor of a Big C going in south of town just over the flyover behind the gas station. Someone did in fact clear fill and level a huge piece of land there but nothing else has ever come of it. I've also heard (for 5 years) that Foodland owns a plot near the palace on Nebkahard road where they intend to open a store but haven't seen anything happen with that either.

Maybe Tesco scared off all the competition. Now with a them, Villa Market, the old Hua Hin shopping mall market, and the "G" market there are quite a few grocery options for a town this size, not to mention numerous smaller shops like Golden Place and the Mini Farm Market and Makro is not far (just north of Pranburi).

What are the options in Cha-Am? I only know of the OK Supermarket on that main road running to the beach.

There is a Tesco Lotus Express (near the fresh market) and on the beachfront there is also "Cha-Am ram leuk" (Cha-am memory) which is well stocked.

You can also buy sausages ham etc. from some restaurants like German Food House (soi bus station).

Hmm, that's about it I guess. Okay is indeed your best choice for imported products.

Just heard today that the construction site opposite the Tessaban, beside the old mall is another "market" what ever that means :)

I have heard that this construction is for a new hotel.

The new CJ supermarket behind Tesco Express is quite cheap for certain items..HP sauce for example is 105 baht whereas Tesco etc charge 123 baht.

Tesco do own the land opposite Sports illage but were refused permission to build a superstore, not to say that a future Mayor may change that opinion asTesco still own the land.

Our Thai employees tell us that it's indeed going to be a big "market" with lots of small shops inside, I can't really say that I understand what they mean, but to me it sounds similar to the old Hua Hin shopping mall.

But hey I was the one claiming the FN outlet to be a Big C, so my sources are failing on me :D

*Deleted - sorry, didn't read well enough. :)

If that is true, then what would make sense is once the new "Market" is completed they tear down the old mall, as I think it is well beyond its best before date :)

There have been several stories over the last year about what is going into that construction site beside old Hua Hin Shopping Mall. First it was going to be a Travelodge Hotel of the same named worldwide chain. The latest I heard is that it will "include" a hotel, mall of shops, and a multi-story parking garage. A garage sure would be usefull on that main downtown corner. Not only that site but a similar enterprise; "hotel with shops and a supermarket" is rumored to be going into that huge site surrounded by a green construction fence on the corner of Soi 94 and Phetkasem Rd. It is said that is a project by the family that owns the "G" (Geeuntin) Supermarket just west of the railroad tracks and a new mini market on the corner of Chomsin and Phetkasem (as well as The G House hotel up on the road that runs to the north side of Hin Lek Fai).
