Hi! I'm a Finnish student and went to study in Thailand last fall (exchange program). I got a non-immigrant ED (student) visa in 24 Jul 2009, No. of entry: M, enter before 23 Jul 2010. I was in Thailand from July till December 22nd and did a visa run to Singapore in the end of September. (I entered Thailand 31th of July and studied from 14th of September till 3rd of December and was on holiday the rest of the time.)

Now I'm going back in March for a vacation, not studying, for little less than 2 months. I would presume that my student visa is still good since it says "enter before 23 Jul 2010" and its "multiple entries", but I read something that it is actually only valid for the time you study there. Do they know I already finished my studies in December (since I gave the dates for the embassy in Finland when I was applying for the visa or maybe the university informed them or something)?

I also read something that you should report every 3 months and provide the local authorities with confirmation from your exchange school or something, but as far as I know, no one from our exchange program did that. Everyone with a one year visa went to other countries during the first 3 months of stay though.

So, can I still go to Thailand in March with my student visa or is it not valid anymore since I'm not studying there anymore and I came back to Finland in December? Thanks a lot

Unless there are restrictions marked on the visa it should be fine for entry and the 90 day reports were only required if you had extended your stay at Immigration and did not leave the country so you did nothing wrong then.

I don't see any restrictions marked on the visa. Here (http://www.thaivisa.com/279.0.html) it says:

"With your acceptance letter from a Thai School or university you will be able to get a "Non-Immigrant ED" visa from a Thai Embassy or consulate abroad.

This visa will allow you to stay in Thailand for 1 year subject to one extension within the first 90 days.

Basically this means you can stay in Thailand for one full year without any visa runs whatsoever, after the extension has been made. 90 day reports to the Immigration Office, still have to be made the same way as for any other visa extension."

What is this extension basically? Is it the one that I could have got if I sent proof of my studies to the authorities, or does my visit to Singapore within the first 90 days count as an extension too? So I mean, how do I know if I have an extension or not? In my visa there's also a text "extension of stay not permitted".

An extension of stay would have been an entry in your passport from Immigration on the basis of being a full time student and present paperwork to support that and a TM.7 form costing 1,900 baht and you would not require leaving country every 90 days but would have to report your presence on a TM.47 forum to immigration every 90 days. The note about extension of stay not permitted is just so you know the normal 30 day extension of a tourist visa is not available.

Your visa is valid for entry of 90 days until it expires on 22 July.

Ok, thanks a lot!
