:D Need to know what units are good, what is your experience with these?

What is the big seller here in Thailand? Only English speaking, activation units preferred. Thanks for your help - :)

I know the proper car types are easier to see the screen but my Nokia E71 works very well.

Do you have a Thailand map on your tom tom?

@ patong; Yes me too would like to know where to get Tom Tom with Thailand map.

I understand Garmin is only available here.

Thailand maps for Tom Tom units are available now.

The OP asked what was the biggest seller here. As previously only Mio and Garmin had Thai maps, I would suggest it was one of these brands.

If I was to speculate further, I would guess Garmin.

Do Tom Tom units have traffic info in Thailand?

South East Asia map from Garmin. Be careful with this map. I have used it some and found that it routes differently than the ESRI map. The SEA map showed a route to a friend's house not far from where I live. My wife told me I couldn't go that way. Of course I didn't believe her. I tried the route yesterday and indeed it got me there. There was some guesswork involved because the actual goat path and the GPS were a bit different. Most of the roads were just farm paths and I was worried that I would meet an oncoming vehicle. There was no room to pass. When I went back home, amazingly that route was also in the GPS. When I failed to turn the original way I had come, it recalculated and gave me my normal route. Unfortunately it also told me to turn on a road number that was far from where I was at.

My GPS was set for the fastest way and to avoid dirt roads so it should not have routed me the way it did. I would advise people not to follow this map unless the routes are paved numbered highways. The ESRI map also has glitches but not to this extent.

How do you find that the Rotweiler Thailand map stacks up in terms of the trustworthiness of its routings?

I have the Rotweiler map also. It is hopelessly outdated as far as new roads and waypoints. It also has more than a few routing glitches. I always cringe when people say how wonderful it is. And, yes I have the latest version. The best thing about it is that it is easy to install on your computer.

POI and lots more

I have a Kenwood DNX7340 BT Garmin navigation system in the car. The map I've installed is the ESRI Thailand Street Map V.10.

I made the mistake of buying a Besta Advance, it has SpeedNavi GPS, and drives me crazy.

Just purchased a Garmin Nuvi 1460 with v.10 ESRI map for 17900

The large screen nüvi® 1460 offers multiple-point routing and junction view, and lane info to help you manage busy highway interchanges.

See Even More

It’s easy to see where you’re going on nüvi 1460’s 5-inch touchscreen display. View map detail, driving directions, photos and more in bright, brilliant color. With its large screen, you’ll always get the big picture.

Take It With You

Twenty-five percent slimmer than other nüvis, you can take the ultra-thin 1460 anywhere. It easily fits in your pocket or purse, and its rechargeable lithium-ion battery makes it convenient for navigation by car or foot.

Know the Lane Before It’s Too Late

No more guessing which lane you need to be in to make an upcoming turn. Real view junction view guides you to the correct lane for an approaching turn or exit, making unfamiliar intersections and exits easy to navigate. It realistically displays road signs and junctions on your route along with arrows that indicate the proper lane for navigation.

Plan Ahead

nüvi 1460 includes advanced navigation features to take the worry out of traveling. With route planning you can save 10 routes, specify via points and preview simulated turns on the 1460’s large screen. In addition, nüvi 1460 automatically sorts multiple destinations to provide an efficient route for errands, deliveries or sales calls. A trip log provides an electronic bread crumb trail of up to 10,000 points, so you can see where you’ve been on the map.

Get Turn-by-Turn Directions

nüvi 1460’s intuitive interface greets you with two simple questions: "Where To?" and "View Map." Touch the color screen to easily look up addresses and services and get voice-prompted, turn-by-turn directions that speak street names to your destination. It comes preloaded with dual maps, useful points of interest (POIs), 2-D or 3-D maps and the speed limit for most major roads. Its digital elevation maps show you shaded contours at higher zoom levels, giving you a big picture of the surrounding terrain. With the 1460’s enhanced user interface, you can slide your finger to conveniently scroll between screens. You can also upload custom points of interest (POIs). And with HotFix™ satellite prediction, nüvi calculates your position faster to get you there quicker.

Make Hands-free Calls

For hands-free calling, nüvi 1460 integrates Bluetooth® wireless technology with a built-in microphone and speaker. Just pair it with your compatible Bluetooth phone and talk hands-free through the 1460 while staying focused on the road. Simply dial numbers with nüvi’s touchscreen keypad to make a call. To answer calls, just tap the screen and speak into its built-in microphone. Enjoy convenient one-touch dialing for contacts and points of interest.

Go Beyond Navigation

Navigation is just the beginning. nüvi 1460 saves you fuel with ecoRoute — a green feature that tracks fuel usage and helps you adapt better driving habits. The 1460 includes many travel tools including JPEG picture viewer, world travel clock with time zones, currency converter, measurement converter, calculator and more. With photo navigation, you can download pictures from Garmin Connect™ Photos and navigate to them. With its "Where Am I?" emergency locator, you always know your location. Simply tap the screen to get your exact latitude and longitude coordinates, the nearest address and intersection, and the closest hospitals, police stations and fuel stations. The 1460 features Garmin Lock™, an anti-theft feature, and is compatible with our free Garmin Garage where you can download custom voices and vehicles. Enhance your travel experience with optional plug-in microSD™ cards.

How many actual junction views and lane assists are there on the ESRI Thailand Street Map v.10 map? Not many, compared to the highway network, and limited to the Bangkok area only? Seems like a lot of cash to pay primarily for a slightly larger screen.

here is another link comparing all Garmin Nuvi models

http://gpstracklog.com/compare/garmin-nuvi-comparison-chart

I travel alot to the USA so the extra options (eg junction views, etc) offered by the Nuvi 1460 will come in handy. I would agree that if you plan on just using the Garmin within Thailand, the Nuvi 1460 would be overkill.

I made the mistake of buying a Besta Advance, it has SpeedNavi GPS, and drives me crazy.

Why?

I have used both Garmin and Speednavi and they both have good and bad points, but I actually prefer the SpeedNavi for the voice directions and the split screen maps that show the next 2 turns. I find the Garmin pronunciation of Thai street names very distracting. I admit that at first it took a bit of learning to get used to the SpeedNavi menus, but now I am happy with it.
