I thought the night before last was bad, but tonight was even more spectacular! The roads were strangely empty of motocy's - who would want to be out on a night like this? As I drove from Central Festival to Chalong at speeds of up to 85 kph, it was an eerie sight... it looked like snow, but it wasn't. Clouds of shiny objects scattered over the road, being blown aside as cars - free of the worries of erratic motocy's - drove through them at high speed. And then home, to... aaaaaarghh! What the f....!

Enough of this Scampy-like drivel (no offence, Scampy - I meant mine was drivel :D ).

Last night was one of those "nights of the flies" when the geckos and frogs have a real feast, and us poor humans have tread very carefully, keep our mouths shut and try to get in the door without letting in too many flying termites (I think they're termites, maybe something else).

This one (just over an inch long, from head to wing tip) got into the house:

but outside there were two orgies. One was of copulating termites:

the other was of gluttonous frogs, so full they look liked they would explode. Judging by the number of bodyless wings, he's had a few dozen already!:

And in the morning...? Well, those geckos and frogs gotta go somewhere. Unfortunately, most of it'll be over my front porch! :o:D

You can eat those flying ants (or whatever they are) RDN.

They usually come out after a lot of rain, and will make a bee line to the nearest light... put a bowl/bucket of water under the light and you'll collect enough to chuck into a nice omelette for brekky!

Yep, they are termites. They usually land on a wet surface and wiggle about for a while until their wings come off.

If you listen real closely, you can hear the sound of the wings coming off, "GLINT!" (old Mad magazine joke about sounds you never get to hear :o )

Careful RDN,  you can't eat them all,  only the females.

How can you tell the difference? :o

Do you prise their little legs apart to check out their tackle?

:D

Eeew! :D:o Unfortunately, the only water nearby was in my 4 little fish bowls. I spent 3 hours today fishing out all the drowned termites! :D

I've had swarms of these termites at my house in Pattaya. It usually happens after a good rain, and these little buggers are attracted to light -- so any evening after a big rain, I cut the power to my outside porch lights and street lights, and it really cuts down on the amount of wings I have to sweep up in the morning.

And I thought I was going to find out where the orgy was....... :D

:D:D Sorry about that! :o I must admit, it was a dastardly trick to get a lot of views. :D 10 out of 10 for honesty though!
