How much is it worth to not to have to wait in line for 10 or 15 minutes at the checkouts?

Foodland is always fast and efficient with no waiting at the checkouts and someone to push the trolley to the car an unload it for you.

- I never had a 10 minutes wait at Carrefour Pattaya ?? (but I had several times 30 minutes in France ! :) )

- The Carrefour free delivery "push" my trolley to the inside of my room :D . Difficult to be more efficient :D

First of all for saving money: Never shopping when you are hungry! Second: Manitimes carefour had only a few cashiers open, so had to wait more than 20 minutes for pay the shoppings, that p.. me off. Manytimes i walked out, just let the shopping trolley (loaded) alone. If they can't hire enought cashiers to serve the customers...... i prefere Foodland.

I'm done with the Carrefour bakery..........

apart from the fact that bread prices went up approx. 25-30% in 2 months, I found a cockroach in the packing..........

I know, on many occassions people post here on this, but all the time I thought........yeah, yeah...........now I found out myself..........

I have also witnessed cockroaches scuttling over open food produce in Carrefour.

Now I buy only bottles and cans there.

Anyway, fresh bread is best early morning at Friendship, everyone know that. See you there at 0815 tomorrow!

Slightly off topic but your right, one of my pet hates is being a Lotus or any of them, theres 38 frigging checkouts and they've got half a dozen open with long que's at each of them & I feel like im being held flaming prisoner, I REALLY HATE THAT! :)

I would pay extra to be served in a timely manner.

PS: I had noticed slight price increases on some products but as a reality check I visited my home country the other month and was SHOCKED by prices back there.

Actually you should know that they do have fresh bread all the time as they have a oven. However if you will drink there your blody mary I do understand that it will be difficult to find that out :D:)

Carrefour has financial problems in Belgium, France and other countries.

Financial problems ? :) Sources ?

The only "problem" that Carrefour has in Europe is that it can build new supermarket fast enough to invest its money, because of new European regulations to limit the number of supermarkets and save the smaller shops.

Its the same problem for all other big companies, like Casino (Big C).

This was on the BBC news some time ago, that they are in trouble.

26/02/2010

Brussels, Feb 26 - Workers at all of supermarket chain Carrefour's Belgian stores will strike on Saturday, protesting against job cuts and shop closures the French retail group announced this week.

Daily News Alerts

"We want to send a clear signal to management and show that workers reject this plan," a union official told Reuters.

The strike will affect all 56 of Carrefour's Belgian hypermarkets and its 62 fully integrated supermarkets.

Carrefour plans to cut 1,672 jobs in Belgium and close 21 stores in the country by the end of June in an effort to fix its operations there, which it called "structurally loss-making".

Tesco and Big C same sh...... But Big C in South Pattaya is for some reason not much busy (not a attractive supermarket a all) but mosthly no lines at the cashiers. BTW Foodland gives a special isolated bag for ice creams.

I saw that many products selling in Tesco in Laem Chabang are cheaper than in Tesco in South Pattaya. Shopping Centers in Pattaya maybe have "Farang Prices".

This was evident in the TOPS store in the new Central development - Tolley garden peas 85 Baht for 500g, they are 89 Baht for 1kg in Makro.

you can't beat Makro when it comes to smoked salmon. one kilo 690 Baht!

What a pity i dont like Salmon, good bargain for sure.Do they do caviar there, now thats worth a trip to shop

Are you serious ? :D:D

How long is it from Carrefour to Jomtien ? :)

Even with no wait at all in the shop your ice cream would have been completely melted :D

Good advice, always eat before you go shopping.

I don't think Foodland prices are higher than Carrefour. In addition, Foodland is no-nonse: You go in, buy what you need and out with a bill of perhaps 1,000 baht. In Carrefour you're tempted by all sorts of crap you never though about buying and end up with a trolley full of stuff you don't really need and a bill of 3,000 baht instead. At least that's my experience.

I like the foodland on central road. That 24 hour always open diner is pretty good. Well, at least it is conevenient and it has a large menu. Carre 4, TOPs all have their pros and cons. Either way, I miss the darn place. Been over one year since I have been to Patters. Hanging on at work banking the bucks as long as my patience can stand it until I go back for trip number 10.

Haha,who said carrefour is expensive?

Just noticed the Bakewell waxed paper 30cm x 5 meter in Carrefour.Priced at Foodland 45 baht,Tesco 49 baht and Carrefour a whopping 101 Baht.Same article we are talking about and yes I checked the barcode for eventual mistakes.Don't you think this is a bit over the top?

To everyone who reads this topic,be aware of the cooked farang food they have at the butcher's section.I said some time ago already that most of the time it looks like it has been eaten previously and the repacked again but that's another topic.

However today I got prove that they repack the "" fresh "" food at night.Reason is that I saw a pack of gratin permentier (mashed potato with meat) yesterday which had a special mark on it so it was easy recognisable. And today the very same gratin was there again with the date of today.

I posted earlier already also that I saw them several times just before closing time unpack large amounts of seafood that were on display priced and dated and then repack them.I don'ty have a camera phone otherwise I would sure take pictures and send them to the headoffice in Europe.

So be aware of fresh food at carrefour as it might not be so fresh as written on the label.

Thanks for the warning. I once bought a ready-cooked {Soba?} fish for 50 baht (shrink wrapped) and developed severe food poisoning about 12 hours later. (It lasted 6 days).

At the time I didn't know what had caused it, I do remember the fish tasted 'very fishy' but now it seems I might have the answer.

Carrefour is great for fresh fruit and vegetables, Mackro is better but onlt for buying in bulk.

Foodland and friendship for meat and canned goods.

Friendship and continental bakery for bread

Friendship for anchorr butter and mainland cheese

Milk from Carrefour

You just got to shop around,

Better to buy a little everyday at a different shop than do the traditional big weekly shop, also easier if you're on a bike
