CMX
I have not before been here during the rainy season, so be kind, flamers. This is real for me. I have seen twice, while in traffic, two bikes equipped with twin aluminum tubes shaped into bows over the head of the rider (and possible passenger) with clear plexiglass (or something like) between - a roof. Driver's view, however, would have been unobstructed by the plastic. Did not figure out how it was attached in front. Is that device around to purchase? If so, what are the details in Chiang Mai? 'Course, I would not use it in anything but the city - or at speed. Also, doubtless someone somewhere will have found it's illegal. Still... ttakata
If you do get one I suggest you make sure the plastic is not acrylic since that shatters upon impact and would prove dangerous in an accident. You really want polycarbonate/Lexan but I wouldn't be surprised if you can't get this since it's hard to form into curves and compound forms. I doubt this culture is advanced enough to work with polycarbonate materials. A picture of this roof would be nice.
CHdiver
BMW made some scooter that looked like that. Made them around 2005. Dont think they where imported to Thailand, but maybe some made it here.

Kalyan
There is a Bernelli ("modular protection system:) and a BMW. Google for "covered motorcycle" to see some more advanced types.
Changian
Why not just use an old beach umbrella? No welding required, just lash it onto the rear of your bike with some red plastic string. Does the trick for folks round our way.
