KHATTIYA'S WEBSITE

Website lists 53 persons 'marked on forehead'

By The Nation

BANGKOK: -- The website of suspended Army specialist Maj-General Khattiya Sawasdiphol has released a list of 53 people in various professions who it said "had been marked on the forehead".

The names include Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva and two Cabinet members, members of the media, lecturers, activists and core leaders of the People's Alliance for Democracy. All the persons are known for their anti-Thaksin Shinawatra stance. Three members of Nation Multimedia Group, including group editor-in-chief Suthichai Yoon, are also included in the list.

The list does not carry any message threatening the lives or safety of the 53 people but said these people had committed "bad things" and are now "paying the price for their bad karma".

Deputy Bangkok police Pol Maj-General Amnuay Nimmano said any of the 53 people who felt threatened or offended by the website list could file a complaint with the police against those responsible for slander. He said the footnotes under their names were enough to make the case for slander, "irrespective of whether what the footnotes say are true or false".

Police said they are in the process of securing an arrest warrant for a close aide to Khattiya, Phornwat Thongtanaboon, who posted a YouTube video threatening a civil war and daily bomb attacks. He was charged yesterday with two offences: threatening unrest or rebellion through a public statement, and intimidation, after a legal interpretation deemed his YouTube statement a criminal act.

In another video message by a man close to suspended Army specialist Khattiya Sawasdiphol, obtained by The Nation, Phornwat Thongthanaboon has threatened to blockade the compound of Nation Multimedia Group, off Bang Na-Trat highway, soon.

The 45-minute Camfrog clip, recorded on an unspecified date, said: The first target to be blockaded is The Nation building, starting from tomorrow. You must move away all your broadcasting equipment [laughs]. Consider yourself warned. There will be other [non-NMG] people to be targeted in a list I have," he said.

Speaking to listeners whom he did not identify, Phornwat continued: "Anyone wanting to blockade The Nation, just go. Anyone wanting to blockade ASTV station, just go. Seize their properties. You can [enter their studios and] touch their microphones if you want to."

Phornwat, who is better known as K Thong, referred to his YouTube video message threatening a civil war and daily bomb attacks in Bangkok, saying: "It is very worthwhile. A small-time DJ like myself can reveal the true selves of media like ASTV, Thai Post, Naew Na, The Nation and Siam Rath cry like babies."

He also mentioned Voice of Tape media, costing Bt1,000 a month for Web broadcast, which he said could rock national media. He gave no further details about it.

Phornwat also said he had allied with the Democrat Alliance against Dictatorship despite not having any common ground with them. "The People's National Army [cited by Khattiya as an armed civilian force he has set up] will adhere to the DAAD's strategy," he added.

If the red-shirted protesters are surrounded by soldiers, a large number of them will surround the soldiers again. They will lay down their arms only two days after they have no foods and drinks.

In a true democracy, Sae Daeng and K Thong would have been locked up long ago on treason charges, certainly in Cambodia and most other SE Asian countries, can you imagine them getting away with this in the UK or US.

The only reason I can think of that the Army haven't fired or arrested them is to avoid the backlash of red sympathy and possibility of turning them into full blown 'terrorists insurgents'. My guess, is these two - for all their talk and hubris - aren't really a threat and the Army have them very closely monitored.

Still, it must really irk them to see 'the suspended Army Specialist General' showing up at Red rallies in army fatigues.

virtual traveller --- "In a true democracy" ....

In a true democracy people go through a legal process that includes having charges filed, getting arrested, having a bail hearing, having a trial, and dealing with the results.

It is my opinion that sae Daeng belongs in (or under) the worst jail in Thailand BUT it is for a court to decide.

It will be interesting to see whether the UDD distance themselves from this. Certainly it is good for government side PR and just continues to undermine any attempt by the UDD to play up peacefulness, which was quite difficult already consdiering previous acts. However, we most hope that all democracy loving people will find agreement on peacefulness as the way forward and purge their own ranks once and for all of extremist fringe elements if that is what these are.

Okay. Let's transpose all these goings on to . . . the UK.

Yellow's closed the equivalent of Heathrow Airport. For how long was it?

Red's raided the equivalent of Parliament and Downing Street, causing the sitting Prime Minister of the time . . . to not be sitting anymore, rather running through the back garden and jumping over a fence. Then staged a sit in.

So let's now anticipate the response of the authorities in the UK to such a carry on.

I guarantee you now, blood would have been running down the gutters. Lethal force would have been used.

Okay, there have been a few deaths here because of this, but that was Yellow/Red, not Authorities/Protesters.

I find all this remarkable and it does provide some comfort regarding the future.

You know I want to say all the things that you and others have stated about Sae Daeng but my conscience won’t let me. I think that this man has a problem and needs help. Does his family have a history of mental illness? Some should check before he hurts someone or himself.

And why do they not do this? because he is such a handy man. If a fool wishes to speak let him. He is as much used by this government as he is insane.

While it might be considered "handy" to have a self-made person to blame events on I think it is a bit of an overstatement to suggest that this governments "uses" Sae Daeng.

Having someone this closely associated with Thaksin and the reds that speaks out suggesting violence AND has the grenade history going back to 2008 does so much damage to the reds that it is probably better to wait and catch him "red handed" (pun intended).

Mark Twain once wrote this:

"“It is better to keep your mouth closed and let people think you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt.”

Se Daeng, Jatuporn , Nattawut frequently prove the wisdom the above quote.

Ditto whether Thaksin will condemn Seh Daeng's comments, and 'hit-list', I'm not holding my breath. :)

Re "Authorities/Protesters" does the date October 6th 2008 ring any bells ?

But I do agree, this would be a lot more violent in the UK ... I'm thinking of the Poll-Tax riots or anti-capitalism demos in London ... and it does show what a remarkable country Thailand is. :D

Something absolutely fundamental missing here.Brackets provided for convenience.Without it any number of third rate repressive banana republics would comply with criteria.

Feb 10, 2010

"He said the anti-government group disagreed with Gen Panlop Pinmanee's idea of setting up a "people's army" because the government could take this as an excuse to again accuse the red shirts of preparing for violence.

The red-shirts would stay strictly within the law and adhere to the principle of non-violence, Mr Jatuporn said.

"If we were to toe the line of Gen Panlop Pinmanee and Maj-Gen Khattiya Sawasdipol, the red-shirts would face disaster.

"Therefore, we are against that line. To us, Seh Daeng [Maj-Gen Khattiya] is only a united front member, not the leader of the UDD," he said.

Mr Jatuporn strongly criticised Gen Panlop and Seh Daeng, saying they had created problems for the UDD and were outsiders, not members of the red-clad group."

Looks like he was issued the pink slip with cause. No unemployment benefits for poor Seh-Daeng

...

Interestingly, in America today a guy got the Republican nomination to run for Governor of Texas. He advocated for Texas to separate from America. Similar to the Muslims' demands in southern Thailand. Not only is he "getting away with it", he will likely win George W Bush's old job.

He may be advocating independence for Texas but he is hardly calling for an armed uprising and the use of terrorism to do so is he?

so now it was the reds that trespassed at Government house, I assume that is a typo and should read yellows.

As for people making inflammatory statements in the UK and not being dealt with, I think you will find that many muslims have done just this and not been dealt with.

I very much doubt the muslims in the Uk making inflammatory remarks hold the rank of major-general in the British army.

To be perfectly honest I doubt that an officer in the British army nowadays irrespective of religious beliefs would be able to buy or bribe their way to the rank of Major General either !!

There is a difference between free speech and thretening to kill people (marked on the forehead is a clear threat to kill someone). The government should take some action against him as he has threatened to kill the prime minister.

Thailand needs to become a country where things are done via legal means rather than via threats and violence. Clearly there are some people in society that cannot make this transition and if they are not prepared to do things in a law obiding way then they should be dealt with by the law.

Even Sea Dengs own grown daughter was at PAD rallies prior to them going over the top.

She said she loves him, but they can't agree.

Yes exactly, this is incitement or warnings of murders to come.

Since many of his warnings of violence have come true in the past,

there is legitimate reason to believe this is a real threat.

Remarkable being the correct word. 17 military coups in 60 odd years. And far more bloodshed through political fighting than the UK has seen in the last 200. :D

How interesting: The footnotes make the case for slander, IRRESPECTIVE if they are wrong or right. Get me right people should not be marked but if you are a public figure you have to accept that you can be subjected to spot and can be ridiculed. Public figures simply need a thicker skin than the rest of us.

In a true democracy's legal process somebody like Da Torpedo's trial would have been a public one as her right guaranteed to her under the Thai Constitution wouldn't you agree though jd?

Go reread Englands history,

Far, far more blood has been spilled in Englands combined history

to the same size area of Siam in the same 2,000 years.

That's not even adding France and Spain into the mix.

In most nations with resonable security systems,

this guy would NOT be roaming free. He would be in

a military stockade for insubordination and probable treason.

The only response to why he isn't must be : TIT.

Weird as that must sound, there's no other explanation.

Seems to me like the General has been straight and up front about the list, and who is on it.

So now let the Military junta,PAD/yellows appointed government , from coup-issued law (????) , be up front and publish their blacklist and who is on it.

Or is their a coup-issued law that would make it illegal for the illegitimate government to publish it, so to speak.
