Howdy,

I would like to arrange for once or twice weekly thai language lessons in my home in pinklao.

I posted once before and was offered skype lessons by a few people. I tried it out. It really doesnt work for me. So i really do need face to face lessons. No skype!

If anyone would be able to come to my home in Pinklao once or twice a week for lessons, please contact me. I have modest speaking, listening, reading/writing abilities, but need to seriously study more. Hopefully someone with experience teaching thai.

Thanks very much.

Can I ask what exactly does not work for you on skype? We have a lot of skype students at Walen. It is possibly the case of teachers not being trained properly.

A few things don't work.

(1) reading and writing. there's no good way to write thai characters in front of someone, or see them write them in front of you. the whiteboard thing definitely does not hack it.

(2) too much time spent working on IT issues, trying to send/receive files, get whiteboards to work, etc.

(3) not everyone will have this problem, but the teacher i was working with was doing it audio-only. not sure why. maybe her bandwidth was slow. but that definitely doesnt work.

(4) also i like working with printed materials, hard copy. i like reading text from a book, and being able to write in the book, show the text and the markings which i made to the teacher, have them point at words in the text, have them write comments in the text, etc.

overall i find communication easiest when i can sit right in front of someone and look at them while they look at me, and when reading and writing they should be able to watch my hands move and see what they're doing, and and vice versa.

for some people it may be good, for me it didnt work
