Red Shirts Plan To Paralyse Bangkok, Topple Thai Government

All Thai politians give out largesse to electors in a bid to gain popularity but whether those people vote for them nobody knows as you can't look over their shoulder when they vote.

Yes you can. You can arrange the polling booths in such as way as to see who votes for whom. It's been done in Thai elections recently, and for a well-defined reason: to see whether voters voted the way they were paid to vote. ....and/or to ensure those same voters knew their vote wasn't secret - in order to add to the pressure to vote the way the TRT/PPP/PT pu yai ban required they vote.

You must think that Thai election officials and Thai Party Agents are very, very, very stupid people. Do you not think that they would not spot something a ten year old would point out.

This is why the WHOLE EC was jailed for screwing up the 2006 snap election.

They changed the polling booth positions so that Thaksins side could verify the votes cast.

Out of the two photo's, one was taken in April 2006 and the other December 2007. One was deemed legal, one illegal. Guess which ?

>>According to govt sources 50,000 police / troops are mobilised to control 46,763 red shirts.............................

>>Philw

Well you can't blame the cops who were listening to the "one million" people were coming to "overthrow" the government or create a "revolutionary army" ... or some of the other more insane pronouncements from the red leadership or whatever they are ....

But you're right ... probably fewer than 50,000 actually came.

Apparently you weren't in Thailand or paying attention to the news during and after the elections. People who are paid to vote can't really complain when the people that are paying have arranged to see that their money was well spent; now can they?

Another point, the vast majority of the rural poor would simply be too frightened to not vote for whoever gave them the payment / the handout.

Most of the rural folks, unfortunately, have no understanding of the processes, the rules etc., where the ballot papers go to, how they are analysed, etc., etc. And the same comment applies to many other Thai voters, and voters in many other countries.

And many would be wondering whether there is a secret mark on each ballot paper which in fact identifies them and there will be a later check of who voted for, plus consequences.

One tactic taken by ruthless poo yai is to stir up hatred in the other local villagers, telling them that Khun X didn't vote for the paymaster and therefore should be punished.

No villager is going to take the risk of this happening.

:D These views are the epitome of view that Thaksin delights in along with Penkair and Jataporn.

Ideas are more dangerous than guns, we don't let our people have guns, why would we let them have ideas?" ... Josef Stalin

"It's not who votes that counts, it's who counts the votes" ...

Fat lady is singing - protesters are leaving. Leaders are bleating pathetically about "blood and such". Certainly a sad end to, what could have been a very thought provoking debate about the role of the elite and military in Thai society. Instead, they were doomed from the start by bad leadership.

This is the way the world ends, not with a bang, but a whimper. T.S. Eliot

That whimpering you hear is Thaksin

Is there a plan B now, apart from surrounding an empty Parliament or Government House and throwing blood?

Plan B was asking all the Pheua Thai MPs to resign but when they realised the MP would have to pay 10 million baht for the by election they changed their requests!

Desperate but rich men.

My wife saw this happening in our village, in the April-2006 election, later annulled by the E.C.

So either "very, very, very, very stupid people", or more likely just corrupt, take your pick ? :)

Notwithstanding the stunts and 'er a last minute rush of blood to the head, its over:

SET: Thai stock index gains 17.37 points or 2.36% to close at 752.20, value Bt27,395 mln

I think those numbers would suggest that the investors trust the current government.

Who would have thought I would be pleased to quote this bloke!

Slow roasting in the public square maybe, al la Jacques DeMollay,

until Jatuporn gives up the secrets of all his hidden treasure!

Nah, that's a different story. :)

Early retirement in disgrace and resignation from Parliament,

yeah, yeah, that's the ticket!

Interesting that Jatuporn floated the idea of resignation, but when asked if he would be the first, his reply was, "I don't want to be a hero" :)

Do not underestimate the immense confidence now in abundance on the government side.

These events started off with the arrogance of the reds threatening to push over what they perceived to be a weak government.

It ended with their own defeat and self-immolation of credibility No ifs. No buts.

Plus a political stunt which has guaranteed their defeat in 2011.

Voters will remember the red circus of 2010 and the red violence of 2009.

Thaksin is now finished as a serious political force.

It will not be lost on Thaksin's erstwhile allies who will now desert him, whatever the money.

Forum red apologists may flail about a little, but their leader remains a criminal on the run.

Game Over.

Tilt.

It's not quite over yet. As predicted before, it will go back and forth until May which could erupt into something more serious. But one thing can be put to the DONE! list, - namely Thaksin. He got a surgical cut and was parted from his followers he bought himself in at first, hiding behind them and then hiding under the Burkas in Dubai for only ending up in Montenegro as Dracula. This doesn't make a leader, does it? I think most of the people will wake up to this fact.

Now there are still millions out there which pleas haven't been heard yet. And there's still a hard core from more sides than only two, possibly brewing a conspiracy. There're still people hiding in this government who committed/committing wrong. There is still a faulty constitution in place. There is ..... you add on here .....

There is a chanc to combat successfully for the good cause, but this is getting slimmer by the day. At the moment as I see it, there's no winner and only a handful of losers. In other words, not much of a progress yet.

The government has won big, so far. They got an unofficial vote of confidence when no one bailed on the coalition; there was no violence; the army speakers did a great job of calming the Reds; Red leadership self-destructed; Thaksin is done. As for the Reds, slimmer chances by the day? Now's their chance. Go back to the villages, tell Thaksin to take a flying leap, clean out the UDD and PTP, put together some honest candidates and a real platform to challenge the Dems in next years election. All that takes much more of an extended effort than a demonstration in the big city or vote buying, but if Thailand is ever going to be a successful democracy, somebody has to do that way.

The RED has failed.

Long live the YELLOW. Long live PAD. Long live SONDHI.

Guess these are the next for cleansing :)

also a lot of witchcraft doctors there too. Wait and see.

The incredible incompetence and ineptitude of the reds leaders over these last few days almost suggests that one of its core leaders was 'got at'. A kind of spanner in the works.

Mind you Sukhumvit should be interesting tomorrow. There are still thousands of red shirts remaining in BKK.

The mix of red shirts together with its attendant hard core militants - and downtown goin' about its everyday activities will - no doubt - prove to be interesting!

Yah, it's time for Thailand to start anew without these two fringe groups running the show.

One reason I don't want the reds to "win", is because that will just bring out the yellow protestors.

Well, you started off well enough but......

Really there is such a small minority that might subscribe to this thought train,

that it's ridiculous to even mention it.

As simply put, being happy the Reds didn't derail the country,

is not analogous for loving Sondhi or being yellow or in PAD.

Three completely different things.

And in many ways PAD has been brought to heel, not 100%

but in most senses, they are pretty quiet, and moving mostly

towards a political life, not a protest life. A fringe party certainly,

but better that than Perpetual Counter Rally Inc.

With Jatuporn and Arisman, it would be very hard to tell if they

were 'over the top' on purpose or 'just over the top'.

Both very loose cannons on their best days... these would not have been best days.

Now Veera and Nuttawat once were relatively legitimate political operatives.

Could the money or influence have done a discrete 'Newin' and threw a ringer in the 3 buddies.

Stranger things have happened in Thailand I have no doubts.

Aye boyo, Take a dive, Take a DIVE in the 4th!

Do it for your old dieing granny boyo!

Aye that's the lad.
