I know the rules about spirits & fags, but not beer.

A slab is usually 12 or 24 x 500ml cans.

A carton, 12x 640ml bottles.

Anyone know for sure?

Thanks :)

Last month, a German tourist, Hans Kubus was jailed for 14 weeks and fined $5000 after he was found attempting to smuggle 44 native New Zealand gecko and skink out of the country in his underwear.

'course the LPDR ain't Kiwiland, but resist the temptation. :)

Is it available for purchase anywhere in Bangkok (in bulk)? I know there's a few bars that sell it but they're charging as much for it as a Heineken and that doesn't sit right with me :)

Ever been to Nong Khai? There is a market along the Mekong there, might have some interesting items :)

If you don't see what you want you could make inquiries.

While I was buying in the DF shop at Friendship Bridge, on Thursday, A German or Austrian loaded 6 litres of whiskey into a small backpack.

I spoke to him and warned him about fines in Thailand but he chose to ignore the advice.

I wonder if the banker survived. :D

I can't blame the bars for the higher charge. Besides Heineken taste like shyt.

This doesn't quite address the question of bringing it back from Vientiane, but in December I went accross to Don Sao island on the Mekong and was told that there was no restriction going back into Thailand from there. I brought back two 24 packs of Beer Lao, and there was no problem with the Thai officials on the other side of the river.

If you had been nice with your agent, he could have told you the way to get as much booze as you want!

Lao prices... pay in baht, in Thailand... upon reception!

When I go to Vientiane: I buy wine... not beer! :D

Last time: 6 x 12 bottles, smooth as a breath

PS: Do not PM as you already ruin a contact that you should never had :)

Wow, Im impressed.

Seriously I am.

How did you know this?

As another rmember said, the list is a bit outdated, but still.

Is there some sort of database somewhere regarding what beer one can get, and where?

Or is it based upon experience?

Don Sao Island, Laos

Correct? :)

That's it. Take a longtail boat accross from Sop Ruak, 400bt, and 20bt per person to Lao authorities on the island. No visa required. Not much over there except the market, but some good value fabrics on sale, and of course the Dom Perignon of Asian beers.
