Tot Internet Connection Absolute Sh*te!

Featured Replies

I have just paid about 4,000 baht for a new ToT telephone line and 1MB ADSL connection. The service has been running for about 1 week. My location is about 5km outside of Ao Nang.

The reliability and speed of this service is total sh*te!! (pardon my French). I am getting a better service from my DTAC 'dongle'.

The line drops out continually and, when it's up, it's slow as a slow snail on sleeping pills.

Is this normal for ToT in this area?

Is there an alternative provider? 3BBB/Maxnet?? I do not need fast internet, but I do need to have a reliable service, so that I can connect to my servers in the USA.

Thanks for any advice

Simon

I had lot's of problem with TOT before. It was in ChiangMai. The service went down for nearly a week without informing customers. Called up and they say there are faulty cable down my area. I was told that it will sure resume the next 24 hours. Waited, Called again and this time they left Voicemail! Terrible experience and I'd already boycott TOT. I seek for alternatives like TRUE or DTAC instead.

The Internet in Thailand is a general problem I believe. Even if you change the provider after a while will be same. I changed last month from 1 MB to 4 MB, during the day little bit better and in the night really faster but not what they promise.

Make a test with http://www.speedtest.net/ (you can worldwide select the provider with your location) and select different countries and you will see as soon you are out of Asia, the connections will be very slow! Sometimes it isn't only TOT the "black Peter" also from USA etc. hard to get shake hands.

I have TOT line in Phuket, much to my regret. That was the only line I could get, but now changing to 3BB. Just as you described, slow internet dropping down to barely squeaking in the afternoon-evening. Look for 3BB if they have it around Krabi.

PErsonally I use CAT telecom, more expensive but works great, good and reliable speed and if there is a technical issue there techs are their within a day.

I do pay 1900/month though, but no installation costs and no phone line needed.

Likewise, is that the CAT 'dongle' that you use? Are you in the Krabi area?

I have an AIS dongle (works fine but rather slow) and a Hutch ongle (no network coverage).

What speed do you get from your CAT service?

Simon

I got their adsl line for 2MB, works great since I use it for my trading. Real speed is about 1.6MB

Wife uses cat CDMA and I use it to follow the charts when we are out of the house. Both work great IMO.

We live a bit out of krabi town.

Well, after calling TOT in BKK every day and getting more and more angry with them for not responding, someone finally came to my house and said he had just made a change to my service. Amazingly, the download speed has just increased 10-fold and the line is not dropping out. But it's still morning, so I'm going to wait and see what the service is like later tonight.

Likewise, which office do I need to visit for the CAT ADSL line? I prefer to have 2 ADSL services at my house because of need to connect to my US servers.

Simon

The CAT office is in Krabi town. Send me pm and I'll give you my phone number.

Likewise is right, CAT is the best and they can provide you with a dedicated line, I'm poor and on TOT and i always have slow speeds at school lunchtime and at school closing until about 9pm then it speeds up
