March 17, 201016 yr A tourist was arrested last night and is now out on bail. There's more info on the reason on the Phuket forum if anyone is interested. It is likely to take at least one month for the case to reach court. During this time the guy's entry stamp expires. There are two options. The court suggests to extend at immigration (in the company of either the police, the court officials or both), however the Canadian Embassy believe that this could run the risk of deportation. The other option is to overstay and pay the fine upon departure. Has anyone experienced this situation? Any advice will be very welcome.
March 17, 201016 yr He would not be deported until the judicial process has been completed, and assuming that is the judges’ decision at that time. In the meantime he should be able to obtain an extension of stay from immigration as the court suggests. From the official Police Order 777/2551: 2.26 In the case of litigation or judicial proceeding: Permission will be granted for a period of not more than 90 days at a time. (1) Proof of involvement in litigation or judicial proceedings as complainant, the aggrieved party, accused, plaintiff, defendant or witness.
