Kol?

Featured Replies

Hello!

I have a freind who has been in Overbrooke hospital, but they dont know the decice-named,KOL-any one here ther know about a doktor in town who knows about this?

Brian

What "town" are you referring to? There is AFAIK no Overbrook Hospital here in Thailand so I assume your friend is hospitalized in another country.

There is also no medical device called "KOL" that I have ever heard of. There is a manufacturer of medical equipment called KOL-Biomedical, is that what you mean? In which case please explain which of the equipment they manufactire is being referred to.

Thanks for that clarification, Mario -- news to me.

OP disregard that part but please do explain what you mean by "Kol" ????

Maybe tell us what is wrong with your friend and what this device does, from that I can figure out what it is and thus what it might be known as here.

My guess is that he has COAD also known as COPD. A common illness with smokers. Trygoogling it or you may try http://www.lungfoundation.com.au/ for a lot of readible information on this subject.

The pollution in ChiangRai over the last few days would have made it worse.

COPD has no cure but can be alleviated to some extent by good medical care, an excercise program and in some cases such as mine by an operation called lung reduction surgery.

Yes, this seems to be COPD. Also sometimes referred to in lay terms as "emphysema".

Brian by "decice" did you mean disease or device? I'm thinking now that maybe you meant disease rather than a medical device.

COPD is just as common in Thailand as in Europe and Thai doctors have had plenty of experience treating it, so that is not the problem. Is your friend being cared for by a Pulmonary Specialist? From what you say my guess is perhaps not.

I suggest transfer to the care of a properly qualified pulmonary specialist as quickly as posisble, even if it means transferring to another hospital. You want a doctor board certified in pulmonary medicine.

I know there is an excellent respitory physician at Sripat in ChiangMai. He worked for some time at one of the leading hospitals in US which pioneered the laproscopic technique of lung reduction surgery. Unfortunately I cannot remember his name but he should be easy to find. I would add that I had a very severe exacerbation of my COPD a year ago and got excellent care in the public level ward at SuanDork hospital in Chiangmai. At least as good as in Australia so I have little doubt he will be well cared for in a private hospital like overbrook. I just hope he can afford it as it wil probably be considered a pre existing condition for insurance..
