Canadian Club

Ballantines

Laphroiag

Stolichnaya vodka

Bombay Sapphire Gin

Bacardi & Cointreau (if in a blender with ice and freshly slice mango, mmmmmmm)

any cheap port or sherry in a 3 litre flagon (does that count?)

Glayva

Baileys in my milkshakes or banana smoothies

(I think the Irish whisky would be Jameson's, but as I recall it is sh!te)

Yes, I know. This is an old and dying thread. But, since it's a subject near and dear to my liver ... errr ... heart, and also leads into a question I was thinking about asking you guys, here's my list:

1. The Glenlivet (whisky) Scotland

2. Jack Daniels (bourbon) Kentucky, USA

3. Absolut (vodka) Sweden

4. Glenfiddish (whisky) Scotland

5. Jim Beam (bourbon) USA

6. Chivas Regal (whisky) Scotland

7. Stolichnaya (vodka) Russia

8. Glenmorangie (whisky) Scotland

9. Balvenie (whisky) Scotland

10. Ketel One (vodka) Netherlands

OK, so I have a strong preference to bourbon, scotch, and vodka as my liquors of choice. So be it.

Now to my question. I know that liquor takes a heavy duty fee hit in Thailand. What's the average cost for a bottle of, for example, one of my top 3? And, as a follow on, what's the limit on the amount one can carry in from a duty free shop?

any 80 proof vodka in LOS under 300 baht per 75 cl

Sang Som (in a pinch...tastes terrible) with Sprite

I endorse Flor de Cana white rum as the best available anywhere (especially when mixed with jugo de melocoton - starfish fruit juice)

Capel pisco (Chile) also good with Sprite...pisco with a soft drink mixer in Chile is called a pisscola...

Famous Grouse when in Scotland...straight up with a heavy chaser (half and half...1/4 gill)

potcheen (I forget the celtic spelling) in Ireland, otherwise Tullimore Dew

useta like JD but no longer...the world is a bigger place now...

Southern Comfort or any vodka I can get my hands on.

When I was in the States I use to make regular trips out of state to pick up some Everclear – but have not been able to find suitable alternative in Asia. :o

ARRGGHHH! Southern Comfort? Cripes, TT, that stuff is so sickly sweet it will give you diabetes before you get half a bag on! :o

Drink like a MAN, man! :D

I knew I would get some sh*t about SC. What can I say - I like the stuff.

And believe me you really have to like the stuff to get it in Thailand. Practically have to climb behind the bar and pour it your self. They typically just call if comfort – with the Thai accent is comes out a bit strange kind of like “cumfurt”. Half the time when I order it I get the impression they think I am asking if they can give me some special kind of “comfort” - if ya know what I mean. :D

as about your #2 - Jack Daniel's (btw, not at all bourbon) - best price ever I got in Bkk was Bht 899,00 some time earlier this year.

Anytime I come back Los my handluggage is fully packed with duty free JD (so to say, at least 4 bottles/1 litre each) .... nuff said ?
