For the last 43 years I have in some way or another planned on moving back to Thailand. Whether it was to teach TOEFL, do botanical research, or simply to give the grandchildren an interesting place to visit, being there has been the goal. With all the turmoil, the hassles with visas, the overall changing attitude towards westerners, and now the crap with the private schools I have given up on it all. Being with the company for 30 years has been enough of a hassle so avoiding it in my 'next career' is now my goal. I have enjoyed the threads and imagining the various people through the comments. I wish everyone the best, and take care. If anyone happens to find themselves in Fort Worth, Texas, USA, please look me up. Good luck on your next endeavour. Thailand isn't for everyone, and certainly not for anyone NOT wanting a little adventure in their life. Every day is an adventure here for me.

Remember, it's not always a nice place to work or settle, but it is a great place for a holiday.

Best of luck to you.

You are certainly not alone.......way too many good expats have already left for many of the reasons you cited.....others have gone to better places.

I am very, very jealous: Now you can go down the street, walk into Joe T. Garcias, and have some of the best Mexican food on the planet. :)

Ft. Worth is a nice place.

Sometimes referred to as 'Cowtown', I always suspected this name as used today by some, may be somewhat tainted with jealousy. Have had some good times and great feeds in Ft. Worth.

You can keep Texas. It has too many... um... er.... ah.... Texans. :)

And, if you don't ALREADY own a big ranch, there are "keep out", "private property", "no trespassers" signs everywhere.
