i posted this on another forum but didn't get much info...

there are a pair of public loudspeakers atop a pole just outside my building. there are constant announcements of some sort, i mean this idiot goes on for ever sometimes. my thai is quite good but the sound quality is so horrible that it might as well be in an entirely different language.

i understand the morning anthems and the 6pm announcements but last night a woman's voice came on at 1am! i mean truly how ignorant can you get?

other than getting pissed and snipping the wires i'm at my wits end

anyone living around here experiencing the same, or in a different area for that matter?

Welcome to Thailand. I hate those slow moving trucks blaring out their ads, but this is Thailand where anything goes and nobody cares about inconveniencing anyone for any reason.

You're probably best off moving. Never heard village style announcements anywhere else in the city.

hehehe no kidding, sometimes we get a double whammy here! the public announcement while the fruit truck drives through announcing his daily specials. shheeeeeeeeeesh!

been living here a long time, i mean in bkk and a few years in this area, seems it's really gotten far worse in the last few months.

i just looked out my balcony and was thinking about the building directly in front of the speakers, poor buggers. they are about 2 meters from the speakers. that has to be pure ENJOYMENT!

If this is happening on a regular basis at night:

1: Make a formal complain at the police station and your nearest district office

2: Record a complain to the Pollution Department Control http://www.pcd.go.th/indexEng.cfm

There are a couple of documents (in Thai) about Noise pollution and the regulation in Thailand.

It will work better if you can fill up those documents in Thai, and if you can have a few neighbor to join you.

It will take some time, but you will have the satisfaction of knowing that someone is looking at your problem (point 2).

Alternatively, you can pray for those equipments mysteriously and prematurely fail.

Stick a pin through the wires to short them out and cut off any part of it sticking out of the wire. It will be quite a while before they find the fault. Most likely they will not work out exactly what is wrong and just replace the wires completely.
