30 Day Tourist Visa - Extension

Featured Replies

My situation:

Have a 30 Day tourist visa that expires on May29.

I am flying back to London (for good) on Jun7.

Rather than making another visa run to Cambodia I thought I might be able to get an extension to cover the additional days to save time and money.

I have read through several of the other threads here but am still a little confused.

Questions:

1. Can I get an extension on a 30-day tourist visa? If so, how many days? How much would it cost (500, 1900 etc)? What documents/photocopies do I need?

2. I am staying in Phayathai, Bkk. Where are immigration offices in Bangkok?

Appreciate any comments :o

Thanks in advance!

I don't know about immigration in BKK but in this neck of the woods, you'd be lucky to get 7 days for Bht 1,900.00. Maybe if you show them your return ticket date they may be a little lenient and give you 10 days (also Bht 1,900.00).

Agree with jayenram. You can make the visa run for the same price; and be sure.

You can get a 14 day extension at the Immigration Dept at Suan Plu, Yannawa. However, price is b2,000 and also takes a whole day (possibly more as you might have to go back the next day to collect your passport) plus a whole whack of paperwork.

Agree with the above as well............you could always call into immigration and ask, if they see the return ticket that might just swing it.

Can understand why you dont fancy treking to Cambodia one last time.

Your one other option is pay the overstay at the airport however this isnt really recommended, you/ll know the consequences of being caught before reaching the airport i would assume.

Are you sure?

There is only one fee 1900 baht for this type of extension and 10 days is best who can hope for AFAIK.

Thanks for all the posts. Looks like I will make one last trip to the Cambodian border and make my passport that little much 'fuller'.

Someone had told me that I could just rock up to Immigration and get an extension for 500 baht - this person was obviously not up to date.

Agree, I'd rather play it safe than get caught without a valid visa. Given that compared to other countries, 'legally' staying in Thailand is quite easy/comfortable, we shouldn't really take the p**s and not comply with the fairly simple rules.

Thanks again :o

Oh yes, you are right about the b1,900. I have always mentally rounded it to b2k. As for the 14 days extension, this reply comes from phone enquiries to immigration at different points in time (i've been told you may get a different answer if you ask at different times and to different people :o ). My mate is doing visa runs to be with me here so we have been reading and asking around. As far as we know, the 14 day extension applies to extension to 30 day tourist visas, not to other kinds of visas.
