i'm heading back to thailand in november (for 4-6weeks).

going with my mate (we're both 22).

this will be my 3rd and his 2nd visit.

his dad's an expat living in bangkok (suk soi 22), so again we'll be making

bangkok will be our base.

our last trip;

fist week in bangkok

a week in phuket (patong)

5 days in Koh Samui

then another week in bangkok

so anyways we're trying to get a bit of trip plan going...

the cheapest air fair is linked to a pre booked local flight.

so i need to decide at least one destination.

I was thinking Chiang Mai??

to help with suggestions i'll give you a quick run down of the things we like to do.

(*note* we didn't barfine/ST/LT any girls during the pervious visit, so i dont think that will change)

so we like:

lots of drinking (like most aussies)

playing pool (while drinking of course)

night clubs (hiphop/dnb *dancing fun when your young!)

food/eating out (love thai food, love the cart vendors, hanging for sticky rice mmm)

meeting new people (girls of course - no backpackers met enough in EU)

I think we'll return to Patong, but not Koh Samui (just didn't like it)

As i've read so much about Pattaya i think i'll have to visit there too.

so can anyone sugguest places to visit?

will we be bored in Chiang Mai? or enjoy it for a few days?

Like you said, you will probably be bored in Chiang Mai (lots of backpackers and trekking) and have a ball in Pattaya (lots of nightlife and girls). I was scheduled to spend 3 or 4 days in Chiang Mai a few years ago but I left after 2 days I think(trekking is not my idea of fun). Pattaya w/ its nightlife is more down your alley I would think. Another option is to travel around Issan for a while -- that should be interesting.

the place was pretty empty (both sides of the island)..

i didn't find any decent places to drink (i did like a ragga bar though)..

maybe i should give it another go..

Chiang Mai has serious and growing pollution problems, way too many backpackers, the few girls there are, are scarecrows with bad acne. Pool is extremely expensive, and Chiang Mai expats are notoriously bad losers due to widespread metamphetamine abuse and psychiatric disorders (for which they receive disability pensions enabling them to live it up in CM).

Dont be surprised if you find yourself in company of half a ton of bricks in a jute sack on the bottom of the Ping River after an argument with a local expat. Be very wary of the North in general.

You seem to only want to go to the commercial places. I've been here for one year and I just point at a map then decide, "I'm there". every place has booze and women dude. This is Thailand.
