Thai Protesters Target Bangkok's Tourist Centre

webfact

Recommended Posts

Now, I am in Bangkok (VERIFIED).

Red shirts have massive amounts of support from the people.

Even when the Yellow shirts put on Pink shirts for the camera's they could not get over 5000 people to go against the Reds.

Many many taxi's and motorbikes roaming the city with Red flags attached to them. Massive support from the city.

This is why the government cannot use force, they are scared all the people who support the reds quietly will suddenly rush out and put on red shirts and fight the army.

This is why the government issues deadlines and some Thai Visa posters demand "violence against Reds" but nothing happens.

Far too much support for Reds by people IN BANGKOK.

Here is my "verification" of being in BKK.

Todays papers (both) in hand from the top of a skytrain station steps, easy landmark to recognise in Bangkok.

So now you know I am in Bangkok.

How many others CAN verify their location as "in Bangkok". If they cannot then readers might be well advised to question their views when they are not even in the place where its all going on.

Now, verify yourselves as in Bangkok ???????

I bet nobody else can.

:) :D :D :D

Where is your face, this could be anybody. You said to take a picture of yourself but I don't see you. For all we know this is a friend of yours who is in BKK and sent this to you. Please prove yourself, as you said we all should, before posting here. We need to see a copy of your current passport pages. I'm sure this won't happen as it will show you got here yesterday.

can we please just discuss the topic?

this thread is not meant for any verification of who lives where, or whose identity is what, or who is a member for how long, or whose views are more accurate.

everyone is allowed to share their opinions and views, given they are within forum rules. and remember that off topic discussions on a thread is also against forum rules, so I suggest everyone move on from the above discussions (bickering?) that has been going on in the last few posts.

cheers :)

Do people really have to drop to puerile levels of calling each other out. Isnt this a discussion board for expats interested in Thailand? I dont think it is some image shaping site but just one where a variety of people exchange ideas and banter whether well informed or not whether sober or not. Imho having posted things I am both proud and not proud of and having posted when both sober and not, but really who cares what I think.

I would even suggest support is growing, now that more people are seeing past the propaganda this is "just Thaksin" and realising some people are at last standing up to the elites and their corruption.

Hopefully the House will be dissolved soon and the power returned to the lovely Thai people who can have a vote and excercise their Democratic rights.

Well done the reds, and well done the people of Bangkok for supporting them, cheering them, giving out food and drink !!!!!!!

NOTE: Deleted photos and smileys from original post to save space....<deleted> does being in Bangkok have to do with anything? Does not being in Washington DC mean I can't have / express an opinion on US politics or not being in Moscow mean I can't have an opinion about the bombings in Russia? You're making no sense.

i do have a couple of questions for you though - but they require thought, so I'm not really expecting an answer...Do you support the Red call for guerilla groups in Thailand? What about the ethics of Jatuporn, who apparently has immunity from prosecution, asking poor farmers to stay and be arrested for the benefit of a convicted thief on the run?

Yes, I can't believe they allowed them to compromise! They should have just send in the skull-crushers to wipe them all out instead!

No opposition= no problem! That's what "New" Democracy is all about.

If Sondhi and Prem were members of Thai Visa (which wouldn't suprise me), they'd be PMing you their congratulations for reaching enlightenment right now.

John, we may disagree but it is nice to know you don't feel a need to create new user accounts to express for views and get positive feedback on your posts.

And I do believe there can be no compromise when you are dealing with folks who refuse to obey the law and the rights of others regardless of numerous warning and chances to stop their actions that are purposely in clear violation of the law and clearly infringe on the rights of others. The Government has assigned areas for gatherings like this as to not interfere with the lives of others just as other countries have laws related to assemble. These folks need to be cleared out of the area as they would in any other democratic nation if they were disrupting the lives of others in violation of the law.

And yes, they should have cleared out the Yellows at the airport too.

As long as the government shows this kind of weakness in Thailand then you can expect to continue to see continued coups. The election box is the place to get results and there are laws to dictate when elections are held but the PM has still agreed to hold them a year early given events. This is something you certainly would not see by a leader of another democratic society. And you don't have to go back far in US history to see where a president was in all reality put into office by a decision of a court against the will of the majority of voters and likely against the majority of electoral votes.

I already posted a link reporting that despite the efforts of many media outlets in the USA, none were able to show any change in the results based on recounts in the 2000 USA election. while i applaud your efforts to avoid this fact, it is indeed a fact. so youought to remove this red herring from your aguements if you have any intellectual integrity.

in fact here's the link again:

http://newsbusters.org/blogs/brent-baker/2...conducted-media

if you have some factual refutation of this, by all meansprovide it.

I am sorry to burst your bubble but no one cares where you are my friend.

Yes, its funny how so many who ARE NOT IN BANGKOK have views on whats happening, IN BANGKOK

:):D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Pathetic internet trolls? Probably Yellow shirts from Hat Yai and Surat Thani and other "south" regions posting in support of their beloved Democrats.

I am not in Washington, yet I hold valid views about what happens there.

I am not in Paris, but I hold valid views about what happens there.

I have friends of family on both places also, but that doesn't super validate my views.

I am not in Bangkok, but I was a short time ago,

I am in Thailand and have seen the rise of the Red shirts, it hasn't been pretty.

Location is not the sole demarcation of validity of observation.

Of course fighting the Red baiting technique of accusing all opposing Red Leaders as being yellows

is standard 'us against them',' divide and conquer', strategy.

Propaganda 101 if you divide the country ideologically,

it is easy to control one half of it via propaganda.

And the worlds views on this via Perception Management.

Animatic, are you saying you're actually a progressive? How the hel_l can't you be supporting the Reds then?

The truly progressive stopped apologising for the PAD after the coup, and many of them are marching out the front of Central World as I type.

Realise this movement goes beyond Thaksin, and that many of its number are just as abhorrent of what he did as you are. But they were able to put aside this hatred for the purposes of seeing the Six Principles of the UDD fulfilled:

The Six Principles of the (UDD) The United Front of Democracy against Dictatorship

1) Achieving the goal of establishing a genuine democracy that has the King as our Head of State, with political power belonging exclusively to the people. We reject any attempt, past or future, at using the monarchy to silence dissent or advance a particular agenda.

2) Dissolving the 2007 Constitution and restoring the 1997 Constitution, which may then be amended through a transparent, consultative and democratic process.

3) Bringing Thais together in an effort to solve our political and socio-economic problems, recognizing that such efforts must stem from the power of the people.

4) Implementing the rule of law, due process and a system of equal justice for all, free of any obstructions or double-standards.

5) Uniting all Thais who love democracy, equality, and equal justice within all facets of society, in an effort to deconstruct and move beyond the Amartyatippatai (Aristocracy) system.

6) Using exclusively non-violent means to achieve these objectives.

It saddens me to see progressives divided in this way, and even sadder that the flavour of rhetoric such as yours had you pegged in my mind as a conservative. You are on the wrong side of history, mate.

Who was the person nominated to head the opposition in the censure debate? Hmmm..... Number 4) would therefore seem something less than practical.

Does your reading of Thai history suggest that the courts, police/military are in fact or have ever been independent? That they are not expected to fullfil their historic obligations to those who gant them such authority (and priviledge) that they enjoy?

Hi Blaze. That could be said of any democracy, that there would at least be a little gratitude. Of course, the military demonstrated complete independence from the legislative branch by nipping the process in the bud.

Lots of cars and motorbikes with red flags on them.

Support remains very strong for the red shirts amongst Bangkok people. Although they are inconvenienced they know the Reds are for the good of the country and so support them in silence.

This is shown by the fact the Yellow's put on Pink shirts but could only muster less than 5000 on Friday and less than 1000 on Saturday.

The people support the Reds and its why those demanding violence against the reds are disappointed, the government dare not touch the Reds at the moment, it would backfire very quickly.

Thanks to the Bangkok people for supporting the reds with cheers, with food and with water :) !!!

That there are SOME taxi-drivers that are pro Thaksin is true. Other than that your post is just subjective propoganda.

Perhaps someone else in Bangkok would like to verify they are in Bangkok and then comment on the situation ? I mean, am I the only person here actually in Bangkok ? Its looking that way.

Support is strong for the Reds and its why the government have let deadline after deadline slip, they dare not use force as support is toooooo strong.

Can any other people explain why all these deadlines keep passing ? Each time the government make a deadline and let is pass they look weaker and weaker and weaker so please do not say they are doing it because they want to.

I think you forgot to switch user names but anyway ... the recounts were called off by the courts. Obviously you are clueless. The recounts were never finished and regardless the court made its ruling to stop counting before anybody could have known the results. Lots of media outlets have claimed many things since then but the bottom line is the full official recount was never concluded. The bottom line it was a court ruling that put Bush in as president and this was NOT what the majority of Americans wanted and his opponent received more votes than him (UNDISPUTED FACTS) ... bottom line is people needed to wait for the next election and hope they got there way next time around. In reality they didn;t get there way until 8-years later but that is democracy.

johndpoole, it is against all Forum guidelines to take someone elses post and doctor it. You have modified my photo and you have broken all forum rules, and you have been reported for it.

It will win you no favours trying to play games like that, my photo is original, that you can doctor it is not of any importance, it shows how desperate you are as you appear, like many others, to not be in Bangkok.

I have verified, in good faith, to all that I am in Bangkok and can comment on the situation in Bangkok from 1st hand viewing of events.

You have now verified that you are likely not in Bangkok and you can doctor original posts and photo's of other forum members. Such behaviour shows everyone that you are certainly not trustworthy !!!!!

I was at Siam last night about 11pm, walked through the entire rally, and I would have to say I had a strong 'feeling' from people in the crowd that they are expressing themselves w/o reservation. Just good Thai people who want their country to consider their views.

As I left I could see many people coming to join the rally. Besides, night time is the best time to be out and about in BKK this time of year.

Nice comments! Our family supports the reds as well. A very passionate lot they are. No more coups and bullshit disqualifications (A cooking show? That's the best they could do?)

Democracy is worth a few inconveniences, you know. Most of our home countries went through a few "inconveniences" to say the least to establish our coupless democratic societies where leaders are ACTUALLY ELECTED.
