jayenram
I have a two door extended cab pick-up and my yearly "road tax" is in the order of Bht 1,050.00. A friend who has a five door SUV and reckons he pays upwards of Bht 7,000.00 p.a. Does anyone know the "road tax" bands? Is it based on number of doors or number of seats or both? Also is the tax different for petrol engined and diesel engined vehicles? Just interested.
Dragonman
I have a new 4 door pick up and my road tax is 5000 baht. Haven't seen the bands
terdsak_12
It's based on engine size and vehicle classification. A Toyota Sportrider is classed as a 7 seater passenger car with a 3.0L engine so tax is high at around 6-7K, even though it's based on the same engine/chassis as the pick-ups. My 3.0L Ford Escape fetches a similar amount.
Crossy
What colour is the lettering on your licence plate?? It indicates the taxation class, you probably have a truck plate.
Thetyim
TerdSak is correct but also the road tax is set when the car is new and does not increase. I have the same as Dragon but my tax is only 4600baht because mine is two years old. Some ducking and diving is possible. I had an Isuzu Adventure which was registered as a 'song teau' so the tax was only 1300b
PETERTHEEATER
I've got a new Fortuner; tax paid ThB 5676. This is a Pick-Up based vehicle (common chassis to Hilux VIGO) and so attracts the lower rate of tax compared to some other SUVs.
