timekeeper
is it time for Anupong to be given an inactive post? he has proven he does not have the stomach for this job a man has to know his limitations.......
Meridian007
His self-serving weakness is unforgivable. I know that he plans to move into politics after he retires in October, but this inaction to save his opportunities in October is disgraceful. I understand not wanting blood on your hands just before you retire, but they have many non-fatal ways of controlling crowds, that they seem to not want to even try! They just stood out of the way most of the time at ThaiCom! Why did they even go there?
tw25rw
Is he responsible for not unleashing hel_l at the airport? Should have gone for that.

JusMe
When you can tell "the boss" what anatomically impossible task to perform with himself, why would you decide to leave? It's clear enough who's running this show, and it sure as h ain't Abhisit!
Gary A
Has it occurred to anyone that Anupong is smarter than the politicians. Since he is getting very near retirement, he certainly doesn't have to kowtow to anyone at this point. He know that trying to disperse the red shirts will cause bloodshed and he doesn't want civilians or his soldiers to get hurt. Sooner or later Abhisit will have to dissolve parliament so it is better sooner than later.

Or perhaps the redshirt leaders might try rejoining the world of the civilized and agree to further negotiation with sincerity. Oh hey - was that snow falling out my window? blackman
Anupong should be very publicly fired right now. Its disgraceful thats he should betray his fallen comrades and those still suffering in hospital by advocating that Abhisit should dissolve the house. He is now saying exactly what the people they were fighting against 48 hours earlier were saying. He will know already that the red shirt mercenaries that shot at and killed some of his men on Saturday will be from the same group that bombed his office in January. He will know full well who their leader is and who is ultimately financially responsible for their behaviour. For him to turn tail now and fall in with that group of jackals is simply cowardly, traitorous behaviour and should not go unpunished.
britmaveric
Only one who is going would be Abhisit and his cohorts. Anupong is a wise man not to get involved with ordering troops to murder protesters. Edited April 12, 2010 by britmaveric
Insight
The head honcho is cowering to the demands of the terrorists - it's pretty pathetic, especially when there's mounting evidence of them killing people on both sides. Early retirement, sacked if not accepted.

Yep, and thanks to pictures of them all over the international media holding their non-issue AK-47's they should be easier to identify now. sbk
One flaming post has been deleted. I realize tempers are high but don't you think it behooves us all to behave with civility, manners and decency? Now, instead of repeating an argument that is already going on in several other threads, can we consider discussing the topic at hand?
geriatrickid
PM Abhisit cannot fire Gen Anupong without General Prem's approval. As Gen. rem is fond of saying, the military does not answer to an elected government. Hello? Don't some of you people understand this reality of Thailand? As his retirement looms and with it the prospect of entering politics, is it vaguely possible he has decided squareface through his proxies is going to end up in control again and he doesn't want to be in the anti lobby? Produce your evidence please, you do understand what evidence is, don't you? well lad in picture did have army on his bag and he is Thai? How am I wrong? You see, this is half the problem on the internet, people assume that just because he was thai lad carrying a bag with the word 'army' on it that he is without a doubt, an army employee. More proof is needed, especially in the land of smoke and mirrors. Anyway, if thats the end of your evidence, this case will be tossed out of court and costs awarded.
