I think it might be the wrong time of year for fingerlings I know all our local suppliers have none it stock this time of year. You might have to wait a few months.

No ! It is the absolute time of the begining cycle for catfish farming...There is plenty of fingerlings now.

Most merchants get their supplies from either Nakhon Sawan or Nakhon Nayok.

If you are getting in small quantity, no problem....but if big to huge quantities, you'll need to place an order and wait for your turn along the Q.

Go to Nong Luang at amphur Wieng Chai, just ask people how to get to Gruom Pla Muong(fishery department) in Wieng Chai. For direction coming from Mae Suay, turn right at the traffic light after Big C, there'll be a road sign pointing to Wieng Chai. Along the way to Nong Luang, you'll see a lot of kindergarden drawing of fishes sign board indicating fish merchants.

Compare prices, species and once you've decided, pay attention when they are counting the fishes to get a standarn weight, tell them to count slowly if they go too fast when counting, if still fooling around then go somewhere else, don't get cheated. The norm are +5% FOC on top of your complete purchase, you may get lesser Free Of Charge for now as it is the begining batches of a new season just after Cold season and prices of fingerlings are more expensive due to limited supply and merchants' Big Oui fingerlings are usually fully book out by the long Q of commercial fish farmers.

Get someone with a trained eye on fish health to go with you....make sure to get the merchant to guarantee that you can make a claim if the fingerlings die in huge number...

(usually for commercial fish farmers like me, we buy in tenths and hundredths of thousand of fingerlings in one season. )

Alternative...you could go to Muang Phan which is very near to Mae Suay...just beware that you may get lost along the way in Muang Phan as there's not many catfish merchants there.
