Hi

I have chipped a lower tooth on my chewing teeth (2nd Premolar) and have just been to a Denist on Sukhumvit Soi 71 to get it checked out. The dentist says I need a Root Canal, Pin and Crown which they cannot do at their clinic. She advised me to go to a bigger Dentist or Hospital and says it may cost approx 20,000 baht. 6000 for the Root Canal and 10,000+ for the Pin and Crown.

So the two questions I have are

1. Does that price seem reasonable?

2. Does anyone know any good Dentists in Bangkok or Hua Hin that can do this

If anyone who has experience with this or has had it done can help I would be very grateful

Many Thanks

Bangkok Dental Hospital in Sukhumvit 55. Just had 2 root canals done there (amongst other stuff). Prices are on their website. Probably not the cheapest but I'm happy with the care and attention.

I can't reccomend a dentist in Bangkok as I live in Phuket but I can tell you that the price looks right.

I just got a root canal here in Patong and it cost 14,300 Baht. The tooth was a molar with 3 roots and the rate was 4000 Baht per root = 12,000 plus 2300 for miscellaneous. They had a clearly posted price list for everything so I could see that I wasn't being conned.

I have an appointment on Saturday morning at Dental Hospital Bangkok on Sukhumvit 49. I am a very nervous patient and I based my choice on recommendations made in the earlier ThaiVisa thread Dentist Review.

I booked three weeks in advance as I will only arrive in Bangkok at the end of this week. and received a rapid, very professional response to my e-mail including a comprehensive price list for treatment.

Note that this is not the one recommended above, that is Bangkok Dental Hospital on Sukhumvit 55.

Only time will tell if I have chosen a good dentist, will I be like :) or :D after the treatment.

Thai price for a root canal at a small Thai dental clinic is 400bht per root.

I prefer to go to a Thai teaching hospital that is a bit more expensive at 600bht per root.

x-rays and examination is always free .....

Sorry but paying a 2300bht miscellaneous charge of more than the entire normal treatment price is just daft!

(I'm assuming the clearly posted price list was in English)

Anywhere that puts the prices on the internet will have rip-off ferrang prices of 2000bht per root, Thais just laugh when I tell them what some of the prices in these places are. (14300 bht is 2 months wages for many Thais)

I got a crown replaced in the Philippines three years ago, the "best" local dentist, think it cost 2,500 Baht (equiv).

Now I have problems which include a tooth on the other jaw being worn away by the replaced crown, (I will not call it bad workmanship).

So this time I want to pay to get things done properly, no point being a "Cheap Charlie" with teeth, I want them to last.

So a professional dental hospital does seem a better option than a local dental practitioner.

You need to look a little closer at the general Thai population and you should notice that the older they get the less teeth they have. They only go to the dentist for removal and that's generally the village vet.

Not every Thai lives in a village.

Not every Thai is that poor.

I tend to mix with the middle class who all have teeth and go to dentists.

And that's the debate that's going on in Bangkok at the moment.

Every general hospital has a dental department and most (below the top priced for foreigners) will be reasonably priced and have enough customers to be specialists.

I've had several different procedures performed (by different dentists) at Bumrungrad Hospital, and all of the work is first-rate. Unfortunately, you seem to be very sensitive to price, and I can't recommend a cheap dentist.
