Travel Health Insurance

One Poster in one of the Topics asked if Travel Insurance is affected by Travel Warnings.

I just thought this question should be clarified!?

Hong Kong is the first country to go to the highest level, 'black'.

Canada is Level 2 of 4 Levels.

I believe so, but don't know where to go to get the current warning level or at which level all insurance in the troubled country is cancelled. At some point, you just have to leave.

Does travel insurance cover bullet holes after entering a country that had a severe travel warning posted?

I know many life insurance policies are not valid if you die in 3rd world country. For those of you that do not know check with your insurance company and see what they have to say.

If you read your policy carefully you will see that your travel insurance doesn't cover anything if the cause is war, riot, protest or a coup so if injured even in a peacefully protest you are not covered.

That's not necessarily true. I was in Thailand when the airport was shut down and I called my insurance company in the UK to ask what was covered. They told me that they wouldn't pay for the alternative tickets I bought to get me out but that I was still covered for all ordinary health and theft claims. I didn't ask them what would happen were I to be injured in the street protests as I was in Chiang Mai at the time and it didn't seem pertinent.

A lot of insurance policies have automatic 'opt-outs' for Acts of War, God, etc.- it strikes me that if you were injured in a protest here it could be written off under this kind of clause.

I've always wondered about the 'Act of God' thingy. What happens if you're an atheist? :)

You need special war insurance if you want to be covered for bomb/bullet injuries. Simply google "war broker insurance" and you will discover how exceptionally expensive the whole thing is.
