Artisi
Army Chief Calls on PM to Dissolve HouseIn a press conference with Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban and Defence Minister Prawit Wongsuwan, Army Chief General Anupong Paochinda called on PM Abhisit Vejjajiva to set a timeline for House dissolution. He added political problems must be solved by politics. The press conference also revealed that terrorists took advantage of the situation on Saturday night to shoot at the red-shirt protesters, causing deaths and injuries. Deputy PM Suthep also said the coalition alliance is still strong and they have not discussed dissolving the House in 2 months as rumored. -- Tan Network 2010-04-12 [newsfooter][/newsfooter] ".. terrorists took advantage of the situation...." hasn't the Thai military heard of "intelligence", information gathering, "know your enemy" and how about some properly trained armed backup for the troops on the ground in case it goes pear-shaped, which it did. Of course intelligence is probably a conflict of terms when applied to the Thai military. An absolute cock-up from poorly trained and ineffective leadership, what did they expect - for months we have heard about "terrorists", "third hands", "trouble makers" all of who would given the opportunity cause trouble using deadly force . All of Thailand can only hope that as a country Thailand stays very good friends with their neighbours, cause while ever their a_rse points to the ground - the Thai military are inefective and not capable of doing what ther are supposed to do - protect the country and its people. snorkelador
Anupong should be fired for the mess he made last Saturday Anupong has just implemented the option which has been choosen by the government. The Guy who has given the Green light to utilisation of Snipers should be fired .... Who's that guy exactly - Natthawut, Arisman, Juthuporn, Weng, Seh Daeng, big T and who should fire him or them? Fired on, in case they resist arrest would be be the better action for who ever ordered those snipers and grenade throwers! The Army snipers on the Satri Wittaya school who have started the massacre dam_n, I must have missed that bit. Can you provide some link to the source of that fact or is it just speculation like the one above from myself, surmising that the black clad rogue soldiers / snipers are somehow linked to red shirt leaders? LevelHead
I think its just propaganda. The Yellow side have one desire. NO NEW ELECTIONS. This is just a bit of "saying what people want to hear" - no meaning in it. There will be no elections in Thailand this year or next, there will be a coup, just like before the planned elections of Oct 2006 when a coup stamped all over democracy, the same is being planned again and there will be no elections. This is why the Reds want elections asap to prevent the coup being planned and executed to stop elections from happening. Thats what Reds tell me, that is their opinion. That is why they are on the streets and building momentum to push for elections before all democracy is taken away and the people get subjected to "New Politics" being forced on them. bushwacker
No chance. The reds/yellows idea of democracy is that their side wins. If their side doesn't win then they call foul and the whole process starts again. Sad but true. Actually I agree with you - it is sad but true - would you ever believe this is a Buddhist country? it's almost beyond recognition - and I warrent that protagonists on both sides go to the Temple - it's almost depressing No different from some of those other 'western' nations whos presidents leaders goto church and carry on just after they've sent forces in to bomb hundreds of thousands of civilians caught in the way of their oil seeking exercises wars on terror. tonywebster
Anupong should be fired for the mess he made last Saturday My understanding is that Anupong refused to get involved on saturday so the logistics and orders etc were left to his deputy, the man who will become head of the army after anupong retires. Do you want this clown as head of the army in a few months?
neverdie
I've always believed new elections would be the only way out of this mess. It's just a shame there was such resistance by those clinging to power and that it had to come to boiling point. New elections wil not solve anything....if the Reds win, yellow accuse reds of corruption, vote rigging...take to the streets....yellows win, reds accuse yellows of corruption and vote rigging and take to the streets....... and so the cycle continues...are you seeing a pattern ?? wrong, if the reds win, Thaksin will be back as president for life and Thailand will become a second Burma & there goes a flying pig - 34,000ft

If they really wanted an election this year they could easily have had one if they had been willing to compromise in any way. Instead they offered only ultimatums. Very democratic when your group represents at most 1/3 of the population of Thailand. Sorry, you are missing the point. Coup's take months of careful planning. Money must be paid, allegiances must be purchased, money is moved around, months and months of planning. The next coup is said to be in the planning stages with the "New Politics" as the final result of it. Its not complete and not everyone is "on side". This is why the reds are pushing for elections NOW, and not in 6 months or 9 months. Before 6 months the coup planning will be complete and it will happen there is a coup., so never elections ever again for a majority elected government. Can you see now why they are pushing for "instant elections". It stops the coup planners from being able to be safe in asserting a coup, they have not had time to buy everyone and must run the risk that it will backfire. WHY DO YOU THINK the so called "Democrats" are refusing to have an election ? They are willing for people to die and still prevent an election. Had it not dawned on you yet ? This is the opinions of some of the reds, and it makes sense to me. The lack of any calls for the PM to step down smells very bad now, the sudden "threats" against the Democrats is part of the game, they will likely be told you must stay in power and you must not have elections UNTIL the other plan is ready to be hatched. The "threat of dissolution" is just a gun to their heads, to make them toe the line. Its just opinion, make your own mind up.

keepsamuiclean
If the reds are insisting on quick elections fearing a coup will destroy "democracy" why was nobody protesting when the government after the coup 2006 promised elections within one year which took 15 months?
