Hi Member

Sent off my wifes FLR(M) last month, recieved the acknowlegment letter (with a case worker), fees cashed. All looked ok.

However we recieved a letter today asking her to go along to a participating post office or visa office within the next 15 days to submit another photo and her finger prints.

I know we applied for a biometric ID card with the visa and enclosed all the requested photos.................. but whats the extra request and finger prints all about.

Anybody experienced the same.

Cheers

I wondered the same thing when it happened to us. However, they check the details they've already taken against the ones they got before for the original visa to make sure it's one and the same person. So she does have to do it all again.

If possible I would suggest the post office option (unless you're near a centre). You have to pay £8 or something but it took all of 10 minutes.

By the way, we got the ID card/docs back about three weeks after.

From Completing application form FLR(M)

Identity cards for foreign nationals

Compulsory identity cards were introduced in 2008 for some foreign nationals applying for permission to remain in the UK. The card is a form of biometric immigration document.

Everyone applying in the categories covered by form FLR(M), including dependants on these applications, must also apply for an identity card.

For more information about identity cards for foreign nationals, including your responsibilities as a card holder, see the Identity cards section.

You will need to enrol your fingerprints and photograph (known as 'biometric information') as part of your application for an identity card.

Postal applications

If you are applying by post, we will send you a letter telling you to book an appointment at one of our biometric enrolment centres.
