June 3, 200521 yr This list is mostly a joke. So many great directors didn't make the list. Francis Ford Coppola, Bernardo Bertolucci, Sergio Leone, The Coen Brothers, Brian De Palma and Federico Fellini. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> ...oh yes, rightly Bernardo Bertolucci - 1900 - an absolute mind bender of a movie, terrific story plus De Nero, Burt Lancaster, Gérard Depardieu plus Donald Sutherland in his most evil role - 5 hours of cinematic perfection. ... and then "Last Tango in Paris", "The Little Buddah" and "The Last Emporer" just to name three. A genius. Edited June 3, 200521 yr by Thomas_Merton
June 3, 200521 yr I can't believe I'm the only one that put "On the Water-Front" (1954) on the list. Great actor (Marlon Brando at his zenith), great director (Elia Kazan), great film (an oscar winner, but, then again, that doesn't mean much).
June 3, 200521 yr I can tell you my favourite top ten. ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOOS NEST SLEEPER EDWARD SCISSORHANDS BACK TO THE FUTURE LEON THE COMMITMENTS COOL RUNNINGS CAST AWAY NATURAL BORN KILLERS GOODFELLAS THE INCREDIBLES There are probably many more I've forgotten... Sin City is good enough to be in the top 20.
June 3, 200521 yr Has anyone mentioned Dr. Zhivago (1965) with Omar Sharif? Excellent movie - don't make 'em like that anymore...

June 3, 200521 yr Has anyone mentioned Dr. Zhivago (1965) with Omar Sharif?Excellent movie - don't make 'em like that anymore... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I fell in love with Julie Christie that year
June 4, 200521 yr Can't believe I'm the only one who has mentioned "The Big Lobowski". I thought it was a fantastic film... totster I like it a lot. Not a favorite of mine, but it is really funny. How could anyone not like "The Dude?"
June 4, 200521 yr I'm very surprised that with all the Asia lovers out there, not one other person has mentioned the third film in Oliver Stone's " Vietnam Trilogy", my all time favourite, ' Heaven and Earth' A lot of you have nominated the first, ' Platoon' , but 'Born on the Fourth of July' & 'Heaven and Earth' seem to have been forgotton.
June 4, 200521 yr Oh my God, A Fish Called Wanda, how could I forget that one? I love that movie. Great comedy. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The only problem with the movie was that the jokes had to be explained for the American audience. "applause", "applause"

June 4, 200521 yr ....Ah <deleted> it's true - we all hate the English <{POST_SNAPBACK}> See? I knew it! I knew it!
June 4, 200521 yr Debbie Does Dallas was the first porno I ever saw...can still remember a couple of the scenes <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Not my first , but certainly memorable: "Mr. <forgotten name>, I don't think you're supposed to do that" .
June 4, 200521 yr [ Sergio Leone, [<{POST_SNAPBACK}> Clint Eastwood? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yes...some of the best Westerns ever made... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I meant as a director. I think his best western was probably ;The Outlaw Josey Wales' And he directed that.
June 4, 200521 yr [ Sergio Leone, [<{POST_SNAPBACK}> Clint Eastwood? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> As a director? "Play Misty for Me" was a tremendous debut and everything he has done since has got better, but he is not flawless. Some of his films I leave feeling there is just a little something missing. I haven’t seen "The Bridges of Madison County", which others tell me is excellent. "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil" was a fine movie; great sense of pace and atmosphere. Last film I saw of his was "Space Cowboys" which I thought was geriatric trash.
June 4, 200521 yr This is the list of the top 10 movies of all time according to imdb.com, which gets 27 million hits per month from the movie viewing public. Don't take too much notice of the LOTR because I heard some die-hard fans got some campaign together and did some under-handed multiple voting. Rank Rating Title Votes 1. 9.0 The Godfather (1972) 2. 9.0 The Shawshank Redemption (1994) 3. 8.9 The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003) 4. 8.9 The Godfather: Part II (1974) 5. 8.8 Shichinin no samurai (1954) 6. 8.8 Schindler's List (1993) 7. 8.8 Casablanca (1942) 8. 8.7 Star Wars (1977) 9. 8.7 The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001) 10. 8.7 Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back (1980)
June 4, 200521 yr Clint Eastwood is just an overhyped institution. He's a better director than actor, as an actor he is one dimensional and has zero versitality.
June 4, 200521 yr I thought people going out in their dressing gown was funny 'til I come to Thailand and see people going down for late night street food in their jim jams. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> My wife often goes to the village shop dressed in her night clothes and dressing gown.. totster
June 4, 200521 yr [ Sergio Leone, [<{POST_SNAPBACK}> Clint Eastwood? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yes...some of the best Westerns ever made... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The "Dollar" films - brilliant: Fistful of Dollars For a Few Dollars More The Good, The Bad and The Ugly - and music by Ennio Morricone (I've got a couple of vinyl 7" singles and a vinyl LP of Morricone's "Dollar" music).

C'mon..the "Dirty Harry" collection are classics! Absolutely eventhough Steven Seagal for example has more versatility. I don't know how you would describe his type of martial arts but it makes nice viewing.
June 4, 200521 yr Absolutely eventhough Steven Seagal for example has more versatility. I don't know how you would describe his type of martial arts but it makes nice viewing. Steven Seagal and versatility in the same sentence? Never thought I would see that but to each his own. Seagal practices Aikido Karate and is actually very accomplished in it having been a teacher in Japan for some time.
