April 16, 201016 yr hi, i've a quick question. i have been working in thailand for 1 year. i have extended my WP for another year (now untill 2011). i did my MULTY ENTRY NON immigrant Visa B in malaysia, 1 year ago and by the end of april it will expire. before VISA expiration, can i go to the immigration office in bkk or do i have to go abroad to any thai embassy? is it like to make a new visa or extend the previous one? i mean, it is about the number of docs they would like to have. can i make the new visa in the old passport (which will expire in october) then issue a new passport then transfer the visa? thanks for suggestions. david
April 16, 201016 yr If you and the firm you work for qualify for extension of stay you should do that at Immigration with less then 30 days (now) remaining on your stay. You can not leave the country to obtain a new visa with less than six months remaining on your passport validity (and it seems you may not have that).

April 16, 201016 yr You can not transfer a visa - you will have to transfer entry stamp and they use your old passport with your new passport for border trips.

April 17, 201016 yr You can not obtain a visa in Thailand. They are issued by Consulates. Only an extension of stay for a specific reason by meeting set requirements is available in Thailand. An extension of stay costs 1,900 baht but does not allow travel without getting re-entry permits.
April 17, 201016 yr Re-entry permit costs 1,000 baht for single entry or 3,800 baht for multiple entry.

Non-immigrant visa: single entry: 2,000.- Baht multiple entries within 1 year: 5,000.- Baht multiple entries within 3 years for holders of passports or other travel documents from the Asia-Pacific cooperation group who travel in and out of the Kingdom for business: i went to the consolate outside thailand when i did the first 1 year visa without work permit. now that i have WP, tax paying mod.91 and company fully papers i think i can do in thailand. anyway i cant be sure until someone from the thai immigration office will be back from songkran and pick up the phone...huh...
April 17, 201016 yr You didn't say what nationality you are. If you're from the U.S. the bad news is that the passports now all are issued from the U.S. Expect a minimum of 2 weeks from the time you turn your passport in for renewal. That's if you pay extra for express service. Three weeks is more likely. You can't get a passport any more at the embessy like you could a few years ago. For security reasons you have to be vetted and checked for the passport in the U.S. now. Of course, if you're not from the U.S. the information above is useless to you, anyhow. April 17, 201016 yr I think that inforamtion is not from immigration but from the ministry of foreign affairs. You cannot get a new visa in Thailand, only an extension of stay.
April 17, 201016 yr You can not obtain a visa inside Thailand. That information is for Ministry of Foreign Affairs Consulates outside Thailand.
April 21, 201016 yr Author guys...i got some clarifications. now probably you would say..."of course" but i didn't understand that untill i spoke with immigration officer. my 1 year visa B MULTY ENTRY expires 27th april (or better, enter before), but i'm allowed to stay following the entry stamp information, which says until mid june (3 months since my last arrival in march). i don't need to make any new visa, i need to EXTEND the visa for another year during the last 30 days of the stamp (and not of the visa which could be out of date). the work permit doesn't follow the visa life, they are 2 separeted things. so the immigration officer told me to come back for EXTENSION next month coz today was too early. fine, i have time to arrange new passport, transfer the stamp from old to new passport then extend the visa. now, i heard something about TM 8. what is that re-entry permit? why someone needs it? once i extend 1 more year my multy entry visa B, i'm allowed as before to go out and in thailand as i want? cheers
April 21, 201016 yr Immigration offices in Thailand only issue a Single Non Immigrant Extension (if memory serves me correct), this is why you need the TM 8, this is so that you can leave Thailand and come back in if you need to. Also remember to do 90 day reporting at your local Immigration office, or you can be fined. If incorrect Terminology I do apologise...... Edited April 21, 201016 yr by beano2274
April 21, 201016 yr No extension of stay allows entry so if you leave without a re-entry permit the extension of stay ends on departure. So once you have an extension of stay you must obtain a re-entry permit prior to any travel - on return you use that as your visa information and get the same date stamp you had before leaving (extension of stay stamp).

So once you have an extension of stay you must obtain a re-entry permit prior to any travel - on return you use that as your visa information and get the same date stamp you had before leaving (extension of stay stamp). so, you mean, it is mandatory to get this TM8 (re-entry permit) independently from any kind of prior visa. ok. do i need to obtain TM8 each time i go out of thailand or exist a multy re-entry TM8 like this below? Current fees for re-entry permit * 1,000 Baht for single * 3,800 Baht for multiple do i need to report ever 90 days TM47 or going in and out thailand before 90 days is enough?
April 21, 201016 yr You can use either type - if you plan more than 3 trips the multi entry would be best. You only have to report using TM.47 when/if you stay 90 days or more - each return sets clock to day one.
