Ultraviolet Insect Killer

Featured Replies

Does anybody have any experience of ultraviolet insect killers.

Do they really work?

And where can you buy one in Phuket?

Any information gratefully received.

The ones you buy here do not work well the light is not bright enough to attract insects

from any distance and the killing grid is to low voltage and gets clogged with insects and

stops working unless cleaned regularly.

I brought mine back from Australia which has a much brighter light and a high voltage

killing grid, when the mosquitoes touch the grid there is a flash of light and a popping

Sound and there is nothing left of the insect so the killing grid is self cleaning.

They do work if properly designed our mosquito problem is reduced by 90%, we still

get some coming from the surrounding houses because other people do nothing to

control them.

Beneficial insects like bees and wasps which pollinate plants do not fly at night and

are not attracted to them, unfortunately fly's aren't either.

The openings for insects to enter the light from the outside are quite small and do

not allow larger insects to enter, the light does kill a few very small moths on

occasions, it is very effective for mosquitoes and fruit fly's also i have been told also.

Buy the Mitsumaru AP-444 for about 580 Baht. We've used one for over 10 years (changed bulbs a few times). We live in the countryside in Udon, have screens on all our doors/windows, and are fussy about keeping them closed. No matter, an occasional fly, mosquito, whatever makes its way inside. The proof that it works is apparent when you look at the coils after a month or two........don't know where the bugs come from, but they're toast on the coil. We keep ours in a small nook in the dining room.....a few meters away from doors/windows. We bought ours at Big C, but the brand they carry now isn't as good. I'm sure you can still find the Misumaru, just can't tell you where at the moment.

Definitely one of the best investments in pest control you can make!

I have a very small one from Carrefour for 200bht, it works wery well on in the house 24/7.

They also had 2 bigger ones at about 500bht and 800bht.

I've got a Lotte "Mosquito Killer Lamp" IK-1001. Absolutely useless. I put it at the back of the house where a swarm of flies likes to buzz around - no effect whatsoever, even at night when the sunlight shouldn't be a distraction.

Perhaps it is a "mosquito killer only", because the little flies completely ignored it.
