Got to do a visa run tomorrow and got a few questions.. Do the Burmese still take dollar, or only thai bath?

Can I get an Aircon bus From Mae Sai to Chiang Rai?

How about the night life in Chiang Rai, How is it for women?

Any recommendations on places to stay and eat?

Chiang Rai is one of those select few places in Thailand where the nightlife sucks worse than Chiang Mai.

They don't want Dollars ...... but they have to take it.

Play stupid, hold up 10 dollars, they get fed up asking for BHAT and take the offered dollars.

Stay in the Boonbadon guest house (name might be wrong), very big place right next to the Wat, nothing else in that road apart from wall around wat. 200bht for a double room if you look like you know your way around (haggle if they ask for more).

The street up from the Wat (left out of guest house, then left again) has a bunch of massage (watch out for massage ladyboys) and Bars, enter one and they soon phone up some girls, there are two nightclubs/discos, one of the girls will surely take you there on the back of her m/c if you ask.

1. Burmese take dollars : We've had no problems giving them US $ three times this year. Had no problem once giving a US $ 20, and their giving us back US $ 10.

2. air-con bus MS to CR : not sure on this : guess "yes" : suggest you go to Arcade Bus station here in CM and check.

3. CR night life for women : our human meat-package is not female, so we don't know about this. For males: we are not informed or experienced in that location. We'd suspect the usual is going on, posing as unusual.

4. Mae Sai : great Yunnanese restaurant on about 100 meters down (east) on a soi off the east side of the main road, about 1 kilometer down from the Thai side of the border area ? Perhaps someone else can give you better directions ?

5. Chiang Rai : we used to stay at Wang Phucome (spelling ?) hotel : fairly expensive. Lots of good restaurants, including an excellent middle-eastern restaurant on the main road into the tourist area.

Yep, they asked for dollars straightaway, gave $20 and got $10 back. No messing around like Mae Sot. The had several of us to deal with hence, i suspect, the expediency. If you're the only one there they might try the silly business.
