Need Ideas For Setting Up An Easy Business

Recommended Posts

I came to LOS about a year ago to setup my global internetmarketing business in Bangkok, but that turned out differently. The lack of fluent English speakers, thai work ethics and a few other things decided me to setup my business in the Philippines.

Now, the thing is i want to keep living in LOS but not on a tourist visa. Therefore i want to setup one or multiple easy-to-maintain businesses. I was thinking about a gamingcafe. I know a perfect spot and with my background in IT&engineering it's very easy to setup. I don't need any profit from it, all profit will be invested into the business and Employee's salary+bonuses.

Another idea is to setup an e-commerce company for the Thai market. This however needs a little bit more time to setup because employees need training in customer service and business relationships.

Does anyone else on Thaivisa have business overseas but live in LOS on a Business-visa?

Any other ideas? I welcome every suggestion :)

I think there is an opening to sell T shirts , maybe Red or Yellow, should go down a bomb in Bangkok.

Hmm, that's not a bad idea.

Maybe i can setup a partnership with a printshop and then create an online store with custom attributes.

Yellow shirts with a buffalo's face shaped like thaksin on it + custom text underneath it.

Something like www.cafepress.com, www.ilovered.com, www.iloveyellow.com

The only downside is i don't think the reds know how to power on a computer.

Well you will need 2,000,000 thb capital to set up a business

You will need a work permit and that will cost you

Will need 2 Thai employees for each work permit

You will have a huge investment on your hands just to get a VISA

Do the math on internet gaming cafes

Its not worth the investment to make 10 baht per hour per machine

Ecommerce has been beat to death as well

All the Thai's I know the buy and sell on line do it from Thai sites in Thai language

How about an education VISA? Can go to Thai school 1 day a week for a year and total cost with school and VISA I saw advertised for 33,000

That's true, there is an overload of crappy internet/gaming cafe's, but there's always room for improvement, something better.

The place is close to a university and high-school. There's only one crappy internetcafe in a very big radius and that one is always full with kids playing games 24/7. A new gamingcafe with faster PC's, better branding and better marketing will certainly succeed.

Also, like i said i don't want to take any money from the business. I make enough with my real business :)

Food is not really my thing, it's also too much work to setup a well-running restaurant and it needs a lot of management, unless you mean a noodlestand or something.

Thanks for your input.

The costs are no problem, i can afford that.

E-commerce has certainly not been beaten to death. I'm an internetmarketer and specialised in global E-commerce, there's always a new niche to find or product to create for a specific group. Especially in Thailand i still see a lot of low hanging fruit to pick up.

If i do setup an e-commerce company in BKK then it will be in Thai ofcourse, targetted for thai and expat audience.

The education VISA is a good idea, but unfortunately i'm very busy and don't have time to spend 1 day in school every week, otherwise i would have done it.

If I were to do it I might look at selling thai goods to western markets.

Start with handycrafts, local cultural items, etc, then move to supplying small businesses world wide.

If you know something about antiques/art/coins the profit margins can be high, takes time to build customer base.

Can't export bombs, grenades (popular of late) or war weapons.

Maybe import of large quantities of paintball guns, but hurry.

Well you will need 2,000,000 thb capital to set up a business

Depending on the structure of the company determines the capital. You can register the capital at THB 2 million but the actual paid up capital can be as low as THB 200,000

You will need a work permit and that will cost you

With my new company I managed to get the work permit and permission to stay for one year (multi exit re-entry) for THB 40K and without having to leave Thailand

Will need 2 Thai employees for each work permit

If you are married to a Thai then 2 Thai employees is correct otherwise its 4 employees

OP, with all due respet I think it would be helpful to decide if you want to run a profitable business in Thailand or get a visa to live here, as likely the answer to your question will be very different depending on what you are trying to achieve.

If 2m Baht investment is no obstacle then why not just get 6 month tourist visas or a residence visa?

First of all ......... no such animal as a residence visa.

Also the (new) OP says he wants to establish "one or multiple easy-to-maintain businesses".

So many Farang come here and think setting up a self-sustaining, "hands off" business is simple, any businessman (anywhere in the world) will tell you that is almost always impossible.

Many “newbies” see the relaxed lifestyle in Thailand and imagine that it translates into the Business atmosphere too - it does not; making a success of a business here takes as much time and personal input and commitment as it does anywhere else in the world.

This is one of the funniest threads around.

Lately there has been a number of this popping up all over other forums also.

I really must question OP's mental state to even consider posting something like that for a few reasons

1. Why would anyone in their right mind give out successful business concept to create competition?

2. Why would anyone in the right mind give out an idea for business that could work?

3. Why would anyone in the right mind post asking for advice yet stating that money is no object? If money is not object then why would you want to open business? you have money

4. Why would anyone in the right mind open themselves up for con artists or scammers or some fraud?

5. If someone already failed in one business, why would anyone in the right mind try same thing again in the same country? and seek public advice?

I may come across as negative, but to me this is just mental.

Not at all, I think you come across as realistic.

The nature of the information in the OP has smacks of BS all over it and I am sorry to say, that I doubt it is genuine.

You failed to mention you are also a Nigerian Prince :):D

Thanks for the tip, but i already thought about that.

It's a pretty viable idea but the problem is i'll need an export license and that's not easy to obtain, anyway that's what i've been told.

I've done some online research for exporting B2C Thai handmade crafts & decoration accesoires. There's not really much competition but the demand, based on keyword research is quite good. The competition has weak marketing and only a small online presence.

If cost is no problem, go to australia and get a tourist visa, they are (at the moment) giving out up to 10 X60 day visas for $45 aud per visa.....

or a kabab shop in the tourist areas, or a bar, or accomodation on the islands or well...... anything really....

I think he means citizenship visa, and that's very hard to obtain.

Any successful businessman will tell you it's all about finding the right employees for the job and outsourcing your daily tasks. That's what i do with my online businesses. Why would i manage everything myself if i can easily outsource it? The net profit for that business will be a bit lower but with the time i save i can setup new ventures thus increasing my profits.

I'm glad you find my thread humorous.

1. I'm not asking for a detailed concept, just some tips/ideas. Which markets are ok to invest in?

2. Why not? Are you really that insecure of mentioning your ideas/tips? Afraid someone with better understanding of business might use your concept? You probably failed one to many times in business before, which results in a kinda bitter type of reaction towards anyone seeking advice.

3. Because i want to live in Thailand without the hassle of going back to my home country every 3 or 6 months to get a tourist visa. I want a B-visa, unless it's possible to buy a long-term visa but i didn't come across that yet.

I've been told tourist visa rules change all the time. I've also been told that if one's passport has more than 2 years of tourist visa's stamped you might get a problem at the customs.

Besides that i want to invest in Thailand in the future, starting with an easy to maintain business seems like a good test.

4. You really do question my mental state. Anyone in the right mind wouldn't react to con artists or frauds. You mentioning however... would, otherwise you wouldn't bring it up.

5. Clearly you are not a successful businessman. 100 people might fail and 1 might succeed, that 1 might be me. I've been succesful so far and i'm willing to take the risk to invest little bit of my money into this country.

You do come across jealous. Your overly negative and cynical comments in combination with bringing up money-comments indicate you have a deep psychological disorder of jalousie-ism.

"anyone in the right mind" wouldn't use your offending choice of words on a public forum, but hey it's anonymous. I recently read a report about people like you and the way they react on forums, i don't recall the exact outcome of the trial but it has to do with insecurity in real life and autism.

So who has a mental-state problem? you or me?

If you want i can look the report up for you so you can get some professional help. Even while you are trying to offend me i'm trying to help you.

To all the others, i appreciate any feedback and constructive posts.

My comments to Kuffki also apply to you. :D

I don't have to proof myself to a bunch of anonymous internetpeople. But if some would like to know how i got started with my business, what i exactly do etc. i will be willing to post that. I didn't originally do that because i know i will be flamed as soon as i mention i have a decent running business. That's just too much for some people, their mind would be like, oh my god he's half my age and earns more in a week than i do in a year! I have to flame him and say he's full of BS although i don't know him! That will make me feel better because i'm so insecure!

You really shouldn't judge someone on a few posts.
