Non-ed Multiple Entry, Going To Laos Next Week

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

As mentioned above, I am on a Non-ED Visa with multiple entries. I have to leave the country on the 1st of May (that's also what I am planning to do. If the stamp says 1st of May, does that mean before the 1st or on the 1st the latest?)

With this kind of visa, will I just get a new stamp when reentering Thailand or do I also have to go to a Thai embassy/consulate in Vientianne to get the stamp? I heard I only have to enter the country, just like I first did when arriving by plane in Bangkok three months ago.

Also, the fee for the Laos visa is 35 US dollars right? I assume it is also possible to pay in Baht, what does that come down to? I heard that the baht prices are usually quite higher than the dollar prices.

Anything else I need to pay attention to when traveling to Laos and back?

Thanks a lot

Singha

As long as you have a valid multi entry visa you can leave on the last permitted to stay until day as stamped on your entry and be OK. You will get a new stamp on your return. You can just turn around and return after entry into Laos. Cost varies by nationality but that sounds right. And expect bills would have to be pristine so paying in baht may be easier unless you already good bills.

Thanks for the response!

My visa is valid until the first of February 2011, so no trouble there.

So the costs (I'm German by the way) would be roughly 1,200 baht (according to google) but should not be more than 1,500?

That's not too bad, the flight from Chiang Mai alone would set me back a good 3,000 baht. Now I'm probably taking the Night Bus from CM to Udon Thani and the local bus from there.

Why are you going to Laos? You can cross into Burma on a day trip from Chiang Mai and get your next 90 days that way.

I will have a whole week off next week so I was planing on traveling for 7 or 8 days through Laos. Wanted to see Vientiane and Luang Prabang (I'm saving Vang Vieng for the summer with a few more people)

Not a good idea?

That's fine - it sounded as if you were just doing the border run for the new entry. Believe you can also reach LP via Chiang Rai border which might make a good loop (either start or end).

hmm would definitely be an alternative, start in Vientiane over Udon Thani and return from Luang Prabang over Chiang Rai (or other way around of course).

Are there bus or train connections from Luang Prabang to Chiang Rai? Don't plan on taking a plane, unless it's really cheap (which I doubt will be possible to obtain at such short notice)

For converting money I use a great site with all different currencies just follow this link: http://www.xe.com/
