Visa On Arrival

Featured Replies

I am planning to go to thailand from malaysia through sadao border crossing after may 12, 2010 , with indian passport.

What all the documents to be carried to get visa on arrival. Is a confirmed return airline ticket necessary for visa on arrival or return train ticket ( hatyai to butterworth is sufficient). what are the timings the sadoa border is open.

I found this on the internet. From the part I put on bold I think you may not be allowed to get a "visa on arrival" at the land crossing at Sadao. I would advise you to get a Thai tourist visa in Malaysia before you travel. See below:

================================

Indian national... visa for Thailand:

Passport required, which must be valid at least 6 months and

in good condition.

Visa required. Travelling on one-way ticket is allowed.

However, visa obtained on arrival for a max. stay of 15 days

can be obtained on arrival (ONLY at Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Chiang

Rai, Hat Yai, Krabi, Phuket, Samui Int'l, Sukhothai, Surat,

Thani, Utapao airports) provided:

passenger must be coming for touristic purposes; and

passport contains at least two blank "visa" pages for visa

label and endorsements; and

holding ticket (standby ticket not accepted) for

onward/return journey within 15 days from arrival date (if

failing to do so, entry will be refused);

and notifies address whilst in Thailand; and

holding at least THB 10,000.- (approx. USD 320.-) per

person or THB 20,000.- (approx. USD 640.-) per family.

Submit the application form completed in English only along

with a copy of the onward/return ticket, the fee and 2

recent (taken less than 6 months) passport photos (size 4 x

6 cm.). Passport photo facilities only available at Bangkok

Int'l Airport.

Fees: Visa on arrival: THB 1,000.- (to be paid in local

currency). Passport photo: THB 170.- per photo.

Passenger must clear Customs and Immigration Quarantine (CIQ)

immediately at the point where visa is obtained. Otherwise

passenger must reapply for a visa against repayment of visa

fee at the point of final destination.

From what I see in that part in Bold "visa on arrival" is only issued at those airport entry points. So I would advise you to check and try to obtain a tourist visa from the Thai consulate in Malysia before you make that land border crossing.

Understand Sadao border crossing is open 24x7. You can obtain VOA there (see MFA webpage here). You will need air ticket out within 15 days of arrival.

IMA_FARANG: Looks like your info has come from IATA database that only covers air travel.
