The Thai's are not logical when it comes to business...

The Thai's tend to put prices up when business is slow, saying it costs them more.

Fairly easy to get a good deal if you are in Pattaya.

Visit hotel when senior manager on duty and request to talk to him.

Request his best rate and be sure to mention you looked at a couple of competitors in same area. Mention any other relevant points such as long stay, repeat customer, Pattaya expats recommendations, etc.

Be sure negotiation in done in private. You will not get a deal if other people can hear.

My friend scored US$ 19 dollar a nite rate for 2 weeks at the new Ibis hotel in north Pattaya. Believe snagged the rate from Accor's (believe it's an Accor brand) main website.

PRS Mansion on Soi 17 usual rate 1200+ now advertising at 700 so could guess at a further discount. Also whole place has just been re furbished, gym, pool etc.

I am heading to Pattay May 7. This wil be trip number 10, so I kind of know the lay of the land. I have made many inquiries and many hotels just aren't giving deals. Flipper Lodge and Flipper Hotel have a reasonable buy 5 get 7 night deal, but they raised their starting rate a year or two ago so the net price is still a bit high. Places like Areca are not openly discounting much. Intown Holiday, a hotel I like just up near Soi LK Metro because of the location, is offering 18,000 baht for the month. Nothing great, especially for that hotel, but it is on a street that is close to 2nd road and soi bukao and the center of Pattay so I like the location.

I looked at several monthly rentals all over. I am thinking of trying the MaxxCentral up off Pattaya Klang across from Carre 4 and down that Soi Arunothai I think. But they have not responded to my email yet. I like a place off the main road and don't mind walking a few hundred yards to a main street for a baht bus. I need the exercise. I kind of want a place with a pool, but I know so many places where you can walk up and rent the pool for the day that it is not a big deal.

Pattay Bay Resort behind Mcdonalds on Second Road is a contender at the moment. I like the location, and it seems to be rated OK.

I stayed at Rattakit on Soi Yume just past Carre 4 last trip. That was actually pretty nice and at a good price. Easy to catch a baht bus down Pattay Central road. There is a really nice outdoor pool further down Soi Yume just behind Nantana Garden. A little gem in my opinion. nice outdoor lounge chairs, little Thatch umbrella eatery nooks where you can eat or drink, and they have some sort of barbecue on Monday's I think.

I probably won't decide until I get there and spend a few hours looking around. I leave the USA Thursday. Be in Pattaya Friday! Yippeeee

Don't expect any answer, they never do.

When you are in Pattaya, go and see them, it's the best way, still no swimming pool , despite they announced it for last year.

I think insisting on seeing the manager is a bit OTT, I am sure that if I was a manger I would not take to kindly to some demanding to see me just to haggle over the price of a room, why do you think hotels have receptionists?

But certainly worth visiting hotels and asking for the best rate, possibly with a rucksack on your back as if you are all ready to move in, could always book (do not pay in advance) a hotel for say two weeks, day after arrival look at other hotels and the tell them you are checking out because you can get a better deal elsewhere, always a chance they will better the deal.
