Problem Trying To Connect Old Crt With Computer

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have two 15 year old CRT monitors sitting in the basement gathering dust. I cleaned them off and now I'm trying to connect at least one of the two monitors to my Asus netbook. The netbook has a 15-pin D-sub monitor port. The connectors on both monitors have only 14 pins. Not only that but I have to twist the connector upside down 180 degrees in order for it to fit in the Asus port. The trouble is when connected the monitor and Asus don't seem to have any signal between them. Only wanted to connect with the CRT occasionally since sometimes I want a bigger screen size than the 10 inch on the netbook.

use the fn key and whatever key with a screen symbol printed on it, then you should see something appearing on the screen.

alternatively you may want to use the display property if you installed the proper driver(not the one coming with windows)

Hi NHJ,

Thanks to you, it worked. I thought there was something wrong with the connection, but hadn't realized that I had to switch screens, from LCD to CRT by using the FN and F8 key on the Asus. I'm also surprised it worked because you made me realize I hadn't installed the drivers which I've misplaced and I couldn't find them at either the NEC or Viewsonic sites.

Again, thank you very much for your reply, and in turn helping me out with my problem.
