jayenram Posted June 8, 2005 Posted June 8, 2005 During a discussion in the pub yesterday (yes, I know), it was stated that if you apply (or re-apply) for a married extension, immigration will definitely check that you are actually living at the address stated, with your wife. Whereas, when applying for a retirement extension, they will not.
RamdomChances Posted June 8, 2005 Posted June 8, 2005 They checked with the marrage extention but only the first time.
lampard10 Posted June 8, 2005 Posted June 8, 2005 As we are well known by the police and immigration, the Police phoned up the F.C. and asked us to call in for a chat. Just red tape really. So that was what the table banging, shouting & screaming and name calling was all about; ' a discussion'
jayenram Posted June 8, 2005 Author Posted June 8, 2005 I initially voted "Retirement Extension - No" but have since remembered that one of the senior immigration officers occasionally drinks in the pub opposite my house. So, maybe he has checked upon me unofficially.
Rags Posted June 8, 2005 Posted June 8, 2005 No check carried out for my first marriage visa extension. Maybe taking our son along with us to immigration helped to convince them that our situation was legitimate.
lopburi3 Posted June 8, 2005 Posted June 8, 2005 One size does not fit all. Check can be a direct visit or just asking around where you may never know. In Bangkok do not believe most people are visited as that is the primary reason for providing photos (which they hope is in your home). I suspect that it would be done more first time or when there may be suspicions the marriage may be a sham. The check is that the marriage is real AFAIK; not an address check.
Rags Posted June 8, 2005 Posted June 8, 2005 ....In Bangkok do not believe most people are visited as that is the primary reason for providing photos (which they hope is in your home).... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Thinking about it, we were never asked for any photos as part of our application, and I do not recall it being a specific requirement. I assume that photos (along with whatever else they dream up) are requested purely at the discretion of the immigration officer concerned. As you say, each case is different and is treated on its own merits!

It was never one of the written requirements AFAIK but came under the "additional" category. Seeing your remark about son can believe that probably cemented the real marriage questions.
Ken Posted June 8, 2005 Posted June 8, 2005 They checked with the marrage extention but only the first time. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Same here. They checked the first time with the marriage extension, but not the second time.
sriracha john Posted June 8, 2005 Posted June 8, 2005 As we are well known by the police why is that NOT surprising....
