May 9, 201016 yr The imported original stuff is quite expensive. Does anyone know of a locally made alternative that's not as expensive and where to get it?
May 9, 201016 yr Yes, it is very expensive in Thailand. I don't know of an alternative, sorry. But can I make a suggestion? In the U.K. now you can buy Branston Pickle smooth in a plastic tube so then you can add your own chunks of vegetable. This is a very cost efficient way of making one tube equalling 5 jars and it's not glass and not as heavy for transportation and non-breakable. I bring 3 tubes to Thailand from the U.K. and they lost a long time. Link below. Branston Pickle Smooth
May 9, 201016 yr Author That's a good suggestion about the Branston Pickle in plastic tube. Next time I'm in the UK, I'll have to stock up. For now, if anyone else has suggestions for an alternative, please post.
May 10, 201016 yr Make your own! There is a thread here for that. My nana used to make it, she called it Pan Yan and it was horrible. Her piccalilli was better than anything you could buy though. Be the change that you wish to see in the world. Mahatma Gandhi
May 10, 201016 yr Any time you hear anyone coming or going from the UK, ask them to bring you back a jar or two.
May 10, 201016 yr No, of course not. And the HP Sauce and pickled beet root are probably a lot more expensive, too. Not to mention how difficult it is to find proper pig scratchings. And just review the thread on fish & chips! Maybe you'd better just stay in blighty. Fewer threads in the forum on the famed English cuisine would be welcome.

May 10, 201016 yr Pretty sure I've seen something similar to Branston in Foodland (Pattaya Klang), alongside some locally produced pickled onions and ghurkins. And they have something similar in Porky's, Jomtien. I don't recall the price though. But I agree with clinique. Edited May 10, 201016 yr by chickenslegs
