As for Suthep , i think , that once the protest is over , he should leave the governement

And for which reason, may I ask? For well-doing his job while the capital is on emergency? :D

No , he is not a general who obeys orders , he is a politician who gives them

Because thats what politicians usually do in his position . 25 deaths could have been avoided .

During next election campain that will be used

So because he is damaging the dems as well as the road to reconciliation .

:) ... and where are the generals who obey orders from the politicians? So far, they have refused to obey and should all be court-martialled.

Oh and perhaps throw in a few police generals as well.

Sorry but Gen Prayhut did obey orders , with the disastrous consequences that we all know .

If you want to court martial thai general officers for NOT ordering the shooting of other thais

that's your right . But is plainly wrong

Finally.

Could have been done weeks ago.

Do you really think that this will be finally done at THIS time?

Be realistic (but not so optimistic) and enjoy the free show. We all have free tickets to. :)

I am really doubt that this will be finally done at this time. Me myself preparing for a much longer show, as it was several times week ago.

want to know the next 100 years? check out the last 80!

They would have been cleared weeks ago, in Beijing, New York, or London - and by non-lethal means.

Not when the terrorists have assault weapons they wouldn't. As soon as they started firing at the people applying non lethal force they'd be shot dead, as these red terrorists should be.

Everyone would like to see a non violent solution if it is possible. It is rapidly becoming impossible. At what point does simply killing them become acceptable?

In my opinion, it has already passed.

Any force necessary to remove them at this point is justified. There are no more innocents. And anyone who is found to have brought children into the terrorists zone, assuming they survive the dispersal, should be incarcerated and their children, all of them, turned over to protective services to be placed in a foster home.

These people are not responsible enough to be parents.

I disagree. In other parts of the world they would have come down even faster and harder if a group had weapons, assaulted or even threatened to assault authorities. But this is neither here nor there since this is Thailand. The only thing Thailand wants to copy from other parts of the world has to do with appearances and riches but underneath they want to stay Thai and continue to think and deal in Thai ways.

Weng: Weera remains UDD chairperson

BANGKOK (NNT) -- United Front of Democracy Against Dictatorship (UDD) Chairperson, Weera Musikapong, remains the supreme leader of the group despite his absence on the rally stage during the past few days, according to UDD core leader, MD Weng Tojirakarn.

<snipped for brevity>

It's gone past silly, it's gone past ridiculous, it's now at the supreme junction of demagoguery and fanaticism. I pray that no one gets hurt or killed during the dispersal process; and that the dispersal is also fast so that the residents, who have been lived in fear and disruption of their lives during the rebellion, can return to a peaceful place.

It has become Thai.

Animatic said yesterday "You can't make this stuff up". If it's beyond human imagination, it's guaranteed genuine Thai style. I thought more than a month ago that it might go this way, more shirts, more colors, more complexity, more incomprehensible logic piled higher and deeper until it all evaporates because no one, even the Thais, can figure it out anymore.

We shall see.

Well said

+1

The life of the acting terrorist has NO value in any means and very most of the cultures (include Thai). And no charges should be made to the executors doing their "cleaning" job.

Hello?!?!?!?! Why didn't they do this weeks ago????? They should have surrounded the entire area and only let people exit but no one enter. Instead they allow 5000 more to enter??????????????

The exact wording was,

"This time, we really, really, really really, really really really, really, no, seriously, really, really really really start preparing to consider cracking down on the reds. Or at least pretend to."

:)

Yes I totaly agree with your sentiments, and I guess the goverment continues to hope the reds will say amongst themselves "Oh my god they must be serious this time! I am so scared... we better get out of here NOW!" NOT!

:D

I think This country will be in real trouble, if they had to go to war. They have demonstrated that they can't organize them self in a state of emergency. I have seen road checks, that can be avoided by simply doubling back on a very obvious slip road, soldier positioning on watch sights out side the Pm's hide out, that is nothing but a pure joke and now they just openly advertise there 12hr intentions. i would understand, if the intentions where in a least bit threatening, bit they have just given the reds plenty of time to organize.

As for matey, giving him self to police, the fact that he is pm appointee should be even more of a reason to erge a investigation. If he is innocent he needs to clear his name to give the ppl reassurance. If he's guilty, then he shouldn't be there as a pm appointee.

As much as i like the Pm, coursing national disturbance. 'be it yellow or red', makes no difference and they should all be punished the same. Not reworded if you have a yellow shirt.

MD Weng reiterated that the UDD would not end its rally if Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva and Deputy Prime Minister for Security Affairs Suthep Thausuban did not allow themselves to be held accountable to the judicial system by surrendering to the Crime Suppression Division to accept responsibility for the 10 Apr bloodshed first.

So the demands have changed again not only have the PM and deputy have to turn themselves in but have to accept responsibility as well.

They really are getting desperate for excuses to stay.

Has anyone here considered that if the security force in Thailand did not face protesters with AA gun , automatic rifles and APC

perhaps nobody would bring guns at protests ?

Political confrontation in Europe can turn violent but are rarely lethal .

Why ? because the mutually agreed understanding is that bringing firearms at protest by either side is beyond the pale .

Those who do are immediately arrested and face heavy jail sentences

What's the best way to treat an obstinate woman? That's right, ignore her. That takes away all the power she ever had. The reds are the same

VAT collection for April didn't show a drop, or was it the slightest of drops. Yes, it's costing a bit but it is not costing the government as much as we think it does.

Just ignore them there, let them sit there and get wet, let them sit until August or longer if they (really) want. The Thais have adopted well and don't care about them really, there are other department stores...

They tried ignoring them and it is not even worth going into depth on this but you are VERY wrong to believe this has not had (and will continue to have) a HUGE impact on Thailand economically.

I don't think so and if nothing else, I want to see it happen before the killing starts. I want to see serious impact before the killing starts, What we see THIS FAR, is according to the prime minister himself - no significant drop in VAT collection. This has gone too far for westerners who are unable or unwilling to compromise. It hasn't gone too far for the Thai's fortunately.

Because...

To take a decision now that does not taking into consideration what will happen after the next election is very irresponsible, the only thing that matters is what happens after the next election - for Thailand and the Thai's because they are the ones going to live here. "Reputation" etc will repair itself quickly if environment after the election is favourable, and an unfavourable environment will of course have a negative impact, especially long term.

Only long term solution will do, the economical impact is one of the smaller problems that the prime minister has to deal with

Problem here is that you are PRETENDING that there was some sort of crime committed by any authority involved in shooting lawbreakers who were part of an armed and illegal mob laying siege to BKK as well as attacking lawful authorities with deadly weapons. You like to pretend this is a civil war and in war you cannot stop attacking your enemy just because the mix with civilians (in this case criminals). In fact there is laws against armed personal mixing with or using civilians as cover for this very reason.

Interesting to note that with all the claimed watermelon soldiers, I haven't heard any reporting they had orders to fire on the mob. In fact, I've only heard of self-defense and providing cover to withdraw and move the injured out.

Bottom line is the deaths were tragic but justified.

Chicken or egg mate?

The problem you fail to realize that the Government has to work within the framework of the law, while the Reds don't.

Have you stopped to consider that independent of what armaments the legitimate authorities may have, it is simply illegal and irresponsible of terrorists to bring assault weapons to a supposedly "peaceful" protest?

War? WHICH war??

C'mon, be serious! 37 well-paid jerks to make disturbance + a couple of thousands "rent-a-crowd" = WAR?

That's not even funny. Cut the money flow, COME IN (yes, use some power if have to) and ARREST those head jerks - and the so-called "war" is over. Fast and effective.

Without a pay, the rest crowd will disperce by themselves (someone doubt?). You even dont have to count on them. If some unrest happens after that - pack them all into the nearest "monkey house" for a future investigations.

Frankly speaking, in my country they can handle such of situation just within a few hours. I have seen that by myself several times. And I cant say that it was "ineffective" or "too much talks with" - nope, it was not.

Didn't police in Britain recently just put an end to a protest at a Mosque by having armed police storm the protest?!?!?!

This is all so sad.

Some people say the proximate cause of this civil disobedience can be laid at the feet of the government itself - for failing to disperse the yellow shirts from the airport and government house, some 2-years ago. That omission gave a green light to these people.

Any support they had was lost when they savaged Chula Hospital. They would have been cleared weeks ago, in Beijing, New York, or London - and by non-lethal means. Riot police, humvees, water canons, gas, dogs, and mounted police.

Make peace - Please!

JFYI

The government at the time of the Suwanaphoom takeover (surrender by A.O.T.) was the one led by Somchai Wongsawat (PPP)

, so hardly the fault of Mr.Abhisit's administration.

Signs are of an imminent crackdown

fresh warning by Abhisit

cutting off water and power at midnight will cause civilian population to leave today before they are cut - by tomorrow there will only be the red terrorists in the area

foreign envoys are being briefed today

I hope I'm not reading this wrong, but both facts point to imminent action and hopefully an end to this mob rule in Bangkok

Yes you are right . It is chicken and eggs .

Well if the reds , or rather some militia supportive of the reds bring lethal firearms while

the other side dont , they would be totally discredited to the whole world .

And moreover we know that some police or army while beeing ordered by the gov

are pro-reds while other are anti-reds . If they have lethal weapons its even worse

they end up shooting at each other

Interesting. You now acknowledge the fact that these "innocent unarmed civilians" have guns......
